Unhappy our Baja was crushed today

Rear ended. The tailgate is almost touching the back wall. My wife and kids are sore but ok. The Baja crinkled like its supposed to, but the driver's seat broke and flopped backwards. Hit so hard the never been used ashtry flew out backwards. Its probably going to be totaled...only 7k on the clock

that sucks man. but the best part of the subaru is the crumple zones and how safe it keeps all of it's passangers. I know from experance as well in my 83 GL sedan and my 85 RX Sedan. Both got wreked and totled.

Jesus, Chris.

I had some scary chest pains when i totalled my Volvo, which led to the Baja purchase last year. Motrin and taking it easy for a few days did the trick. But that's worse with your kids in the car too.

day after,
right now I'm waiting for my sons to wake up to see how sore they are. The driver of the Pathfinder took the steering wheel in the chest and stomach, he went to the hospital. His little girl was in a child seat and had no appearent injuries. Our boys were buckled up and sitting straight up thankfully so they didn't travel too far to the backs of their seats. My wife was driving the Baja and the seatback broke and landed on my son's legs. SHe was scared his legs were hurt, but he was just stuck for a few minutes and couldn't get out right away. Her shoulders and neck are sore but she's moving around well today.

Thank God for modern engineering and crumple zones. A 50 mph crash would have been much worse on occupants if the energy wasn't absorbed by the 2 cars(mostly by the Baja).

Wear your seatbelt! Its the cool thing to do!

I would look at it in a positive way, and pick yourself up a turbo baja.

Thanks for the well wishes guys.

We would get a T-Baja if we could afford it. We are at the mercy of the insurance companies now. We've been weighing options if its totalled.

-ANother Baja?
what if we end up upside down on the pay off?

-RS?

-TS?

-used EVO?

-*turn the current mangled Baja into a complete Rally-x competition car and hand over the WRX to the wife? Rally Tech, I need a sponsor!

-honduh civic just for commuting?

-buy a beater Escrat and Harley Davidson V-Rod?

-used Baja?

-our WRX has 48k miles on the clock, should we trade that?

-Hybrid?

-Golf GTi?

-1978 F250, so when it gets rearended they know they've rearended the wrong vehicle?

*=denotes my favorite option

Chris,

Just buy a beater to hold you til the new Legacy comes out. Something like a mid-90's Civic/Corolla/Golf/Protege. There isn't gas price relief in sight, despite all this Bush/Bandahar mumbojumbo, so you're better off grabbin an economical 4cyl for the time being.

But this time put a bumper sticker on the rear bumper that reads " we possess the two missing fuel rods" so that pathfinder doesn't treat you as a magnet again.

My first accident was at 1200 miles.
We were rear-ended and my car took the brunt of the force. It did have a good ending though. We were hit by someone in a new Jag, and their agent was the same as mine. LOL How odd is that? I was sitting still when it happened, and the other car probably wasn't going more than 15mph. The air bags did not deploy (thankfully), but I have to say that Baja is a solid car. Hopefully I got that new car curse out of the way, because this is my first new car (after owning 9 others). I guess I picked a good one for my first new one! I agree about waiting for the new Legacy. It looks like it's going to be a great car for the money. Leather, Turbo, and cool looking....do you need anything else? I almost waited for the Legacy, after deciding against a TSX, but the Baja called my name. LOL

I have pics. I don't have anyway to post them or host them. The funny thing is that the pathfinder that hit the Baja was dumped just behind our car, so I have pics of that too. PM me your e-mail address if you want some wrinkled Baja pictures

Show me some good links for the new upcoming Legacys please.

We test drove an MY04 RS yesterday, we've also talked about down sizing. I might get a beater for a year or so until we're a little better finacially. I guess we still need to wait and see what the insurance company says.

We rented a Chevy Colorado, boy I'd like to give that thing back ASAP!

bummin...

A question was brought up about the spare tire. I think its still under there, 90% sure. But my wife said there was fuel leaking at the scene(I wasn't there). Maybe the spare or something else was pushed into the tank, or maybe the just the fill tube broke away.

Someone asked why the tailgate was so heavy. To me it looks like it helped a lot. Maybe if it wasn't there it might have folded 10 times easier, who knows.

If you look down the left side, driver's side, you'll notice how the bed bends to right as it goes backwards. The left rear door wont open, but both right doors open.

The rear axle or diff is done, backwheels wont turn forward or backwards, the right rear has about 4 degrees negitive camber.

Glad everyones o.k.Looks like she held up pretty good, the sports bars still look solid with no damage.Didn't see any of the cabin area buckled, looks like it held up good. How fast was he going when he hit you?Sure took a hard lick. That tailgate is heavy, but i think theres a reason why.It might not have been as bad if he would have hit you centered so the energy would have been used up on both corners instead of the right.i think it would have held up better if he had hit it centered.Makes me ill looking at it.
