~$8k+ for the engine/harness/tranny/ecu I would assume. Labor could be another couple grand if you don't do it yourself.

You can do the swap with jackstands in your garage if you want. That is the way we've done it before (RS w/ WRX motor).

Check the Subaru Conversions Forum, they know what they're talking about. As far as the swap to a v7 or v8 STI, you'll have to change the rear LSD too, otherwise the rear axles or something won't be moving with the front, and you'll break everything.

The Conversions forum actually has the swap that Sport Compact Car did with a USDM WRX engine. My .02 - I'm saving for a JDM EJ205t. Can't argue with a 2.0 DOHC with 300hp, and a closed deck.

It's all a matter of opinion, but the search button is a good thing.

The ratios of your 2.5rs tranny would be in a word, hyper mated to the USDM STi engine. You would get some awesome 0-60 times though, but on the highway it would drive like absolute crap. I would expect that this setup would be not streetable, your rear diff whould have to change anyways, ans you're already spending a bucket of money, might as well make it work well too.

So yes, you would need a new transmission. I would not recommend driving a stick 2.5 tranny on an engine that produces an extra 135 hp.

You'd need a new clutch anyway. The process of engagement between the 2000RS and WRX are opposites. One is a push engagement, and the other is a pull engagement. But, other than that, I think the tranny will actually hold the extra power, at least that's what I've heard. Most performance packages you can purchase actually come with the clutch and tranny though.

It would be no different than the RS motor at highway speeds... if you keep the transmission, you keep the gearing.

It would also be torn to shreds if you tried to get any of those 0-60 times.

I have the usdm sti motor. I've had the motor for a lil over 2 months now.
If you respect your transmission it will take care of you. But yea, if you try to get those 0-60 times, they might not last long . Otherwise, the gearing is great for the highway, IMO. It's the same as before, same rpms/mph on 5th except when I want to pass, the car takes off faster on 5th than on 4th on the stock engine and i'm goin from 60-100 in no time! And yes, a new clutch would be needed. I'm using exedy clutch and flywheel.

Remember, the RS tranny is shorter than the wrx but we do have an extra 1k rpms to play with with the wrx or sti motor.

I don't know how high my 1st gear goes, I just hold on tight when i'm on that gear. 2nd gear can finally hit 60mph! 3rd goes up to 80+, 4th gets to 100 and 5th, i dunno... haven't gone that fast .

If you want to replace your tranny to the usdm sti 6spd you will have to do a few things: replace your rear diff. If you replace the rear diff you'd need the axles, which is i believe longer than the RS axles, then you'd need the lateral links. So you'd be switching suspension parts around. Whie you're at it you should just get the brembos too.

Another thing if you want DCCD To work, according to kevin (www.garagetuning.com) you'd need to replace the whole ABS system since the DCCD works with the sti ABS system... sooo, yea..it seems to be a lot of work and it will not be cheap. That's why I didn't go that route .

www.garagetuning.com did my swap.
