just had the service done this past week.

heres the breakdown:
$70 used TD04 bad oil seals
$22 shipping to Blouch via FedEx from Los Angeles
$545 heavy/full rebuild with 19T upgrade compressor wheel, no porting, no coating.
$25 shipping back to LA.
---------
$662 total
subtract I can re-sell the TD04 that's still in the car ~ $60-70 bucks
$600 or so

so compare $600 with a brand new 16G plus shipping at $720

yeah its a bit much, but whatever. we'll see how it performs in a bit. I'm more about spool up and low-end anyway since I'm not your typical boy-racer.

I think you're still cheaper than mine.

$130 used Deadbolt Monster TD04
$450 rebuild
$50 ceramic coating of the turbine housing
---**** itself
$100 new donor
$250 rebuild

But having driven my car and a local friend's 2.0L with a 16G-XT I'll take the 19T. The way the cars were tuned they were very close in peak power/air flow. The 19T provided better throttle response. Of course my results are a little skewed as the turbine housing was ported and polished and coated.

Just what did your 19T and the 16g-XT make? Also, a baseline stock number for the dyno would help.

Talking to my tuner the 19Ts he tuned couldn't beat a vf39, any of the 16gs outran them. On his dyno: stock 2.0L 175whp, tuned TD04 240whp, best TD04/19T ~270whp, VF39 290whp, 16gEVOIII 310whp+

I'll be running the stock downpipe with cats in place so dont expect anything large.

however, i had my car my baselined on yimisports dynojet after I got my car BAR inspected (100%bone stock) and it put down 200whp/202wtq, so thats unusually high for a 2002 EJ205.

i'm also going to be running close to stock boost levels as I'm also using stock injectors.

Whoa.200/200 stock? Thats about 15-20% higher than most. When this is done are you going to be getting dynoed on the same dyno again?

Since most people see between a 25-35% increase in power with a tuned stage 2 vs stock, then your stage 2 #'s should be around 250-270 on that same dyno. I hope you see at least that with the 19t.

At stock boost levels I found that the performance techniques 19t upgrade really did not move much more air than the stock turbo. Imo I'd be happy with 270 on that dyno with your injectors.

I had the car tuned for stage2 (no cats) on the same dyno and put down 222whp/245wtq. Paul said he had issues with the turbo and wastegate being "tired" and couldnt boost past 14.5 psi.

however, i'm not getting it tuned on the same dyno for the 19T. i'll post the results either way.

Great I'm looking forward to it! Are still planning on tuning with cats in place or w/o them?

Its hard to make great comparisons between the two cars as they weren't quite the same build and the same guy didn't tune them. Neither of them was done on a dyno, so there are no dyno numbers to compare. I think at peak the 16g-xt was pushing 10g/s more than my 19t when comparing logs. The 19T spooled up around 3000rpm while the 16g-xt was 3600rpm. Power across the mid-range was about the same. 16g-xt wins the peak power battle as it could push 18psi at redline where my 19t dropped off to 12psi.

My 19T was making around 265hp/tq on the airboy dyno compared to the 230hp/tq it made with the stage 2 tune. The 16g-xt was around 275hp on an airboy dyno. But it wasn't my spreadsheet so I have no idea what was used for delta weight and other variables. Having driven both cars I was happier with my 19t than the 16g-xt. IMO the 16g-xt isn't worth the cost over a normal big 16g or evo3 16g.

Both cars had more potential. 16g-xt was pushing 18psi, but had a bigger TMIC. My car was peaking at 20psi, but using a stock TMIC and accordion y-pipe. In the grand scheme the 16g did and will make more power. I had better response and I think overall area under the curve was similar in this instance.

This is a great thread!

I'm planning on going with the 19t upgrade for my 2.0.
It seems to me that the TD04 19t creates the best low end power increase with the least stress on the drivetrain of all the possible turbo upgrades....which equals a better DD and longevity.

A couple of questions....On youtube I saw the Blouch "3000GT td04 19t upgrade" video...in that Blouch upgraded/replaced the Compressor and Turbine wheel.
It is my understanding that for our Suby TD04 upgrade only the turbine wheel is upgraded..is that right? and why not both replaced?? The turbo in the video looked like a OEM TD04 to me....so why the difference???
Is their a youtube video of the $375 19t upgrade????

The Subaru upgrade is compressor (19t) only for $375. Blouch will both on request, but the reasoning I read was that they didn't think the exhaust housing was large enough to see gains with an upgraded turbine wheel to justify cost so they offered the clip which gives you better flow and less rotating mass. The bigger turbine wheel is going to also increase spool-up time.

Upgrading both wheels reach the cost of a new 16g. The 3000GT doesn't have that option due to space and geometry so doing everything possible to the TD04 was more cost effective.

Hey AllWD,
Thanks for the info....is clipping part of the $375 or extra?
Any other options that Blouch offers with this upgrade?

Not sure, but I am guessing they could do anything you want. Commonly, porting is available and rebuild if needed.

It's best to call Blouch. There have been a couple complaints about them not replying to email, but they seem very helpful by phone.

Yep, If you call in the morning they always pick up the phone. I've talked to Mike a couple of times. From my experience you have to be very specific with your questions for him. He is a engineer, not a sales person.
