Call the dealership... We are not pricing experts on size, brand, and type of tire you want. So do your research and find out. Grow up and be a man

The real question is...how much are 4 tires going to cost you? Because you can't get just one

Sure you can just replace one. You can have the new tire shaved to match. TireRack offers the service if they carry the tire he needs. He may even have a local tire shop that does shaving.

Check the forum classifieds for your area and put up a WTB post.

I'd rather get 4 new than pay whatever the dealer or even tire rack is going to charge for the stockers...

The only time that shaving a tire is a good choice is when you find yourself in a situation like the op has. His other 3 tires have about %75 life left (just a guess) and so he should just buy the one tire and have it shaved down.

I have 14k on tires. Pardon my ignorance but why do I have to have the new tire shaved?

1) It's explained in the owners manual under tires.

2) In a nutshell, the rolling diameter of a new tire is greater than the rolling diameter of the other 3 worn tires. It will put a bit of stress on the drivetrain/differentials/speed sensors when you have one tire rolling at a different speed than others. Hence, replacing one tire on an AWD car is not a grand idea and with that many miles, one usually needs to replace at least 2 on the same axle, if not 4. Buy 4 new tires and put them on. Sell the 3 used ones in the classifieds for $50/$100 ea to make up for the loss.

4) Or find someone local with the same tire selling used tires around the same mileage and buy one.

3) Because aliens.

You asked if you could ask what happened, but then in the same sentence you asked what happened.

Had new tire put on today at dealership. They told me if the new tire diameter was less than a 1/4" difference vs old tire diameters than I would be fine. Hope they're right.

Old tire had 8/32 left according to dealership. I'll have to see what new tire has on it.
