Default is it possible to reset ECU, wait week and if you get no codes pass OBD2 emisisons???

Guys,

once every month or so i get a 420 cel that comes on and goes away after a while...is it possible to reset the ecu, wait a week or so to let the ecu be in a "ready" state and then pass obd2 test. OR do you all think that it will flag a cel once it is in a ready state immediately?

Also, when you properly reset the ecu does it clear stored codes???

Any help is appreciated.

Joe

Hmm, I've actually had the CEL come on while in 3rd, 4th, and 5th (mostly 5th. 3rd only happened once). Maybe I'm just special though. Anyone know how many driving cycles are need for the ECU to go into the ready state?

With the older OBD-II NA Ecus it was 2 full warm up cool down cycles. I would think the new ecus would be the same.

There is a string of tests that are completed for the ready codes to say "pass" if you are lucky you can obtain this before the test and you will be fine. If any of the tests say "pending" or "fail" then you will fail the test and have to retest. Best to get an OBD monitor and watch the ready codes before you go in.
