The Windows 7 Phone Thread
Anyone here get one of those new Windows 7 phones today? I was curious to try one out, and really liked the Samsung Focus. The user interface was really nice and well laid out, the phone was lightning fast, the screen was amazing, MS Office on it (Word, Excel, OneNote, and can view, edit, and save PowerPoint presentations), etc.. etc... I was impressed. I really want to try out the upcoming LG Quantum, with its full QWERTY keyboard.
So, anyone here try one out, get one, or waiting to get one? ibOMGbrotheiphoneisbetterbro

I'd wait for an HTC model.
Also, I'd wait for copy & paste to work... or did they work that in to the initial release? |

There's already one of these.
WP7 seems DoA to me. Extremely long load times, no copy/paste, no multitasking, no customizability, crappy non-webkit browser with no Flash/HTML5 or even MS' own Silverlight. They've copied everything that was bad about iOS1.0 and added their own stupid little touches. |

Meh... by the time Windows 7 Phone catches up with Android 2.x, Android will be on release 5.0.

Windows on a phone does not sound like a good idea to me.

I have an iPac PDA (by HP or Compaq or whoever was left after HP decided to quit making real equipment and become an inkjet cartridge company) running wince 2003 if anybody really, really wants to experience Windows on a handheld device. PM me and I'll mail it to you to save you the humiliation of paying for a wince 7 device.
They were giving them away for free after everybody figured out they were crap. |

My sister in law tells me that with the latest update copy & paste now works on her Windows Phone.
This tells me that at least one person bought a Windows Phone. I don't think I've ever actually seen one in the wild though. |

The Trophy seems like a decent phone. Got to play around with it. If you ever used a Zune HD, pretty much the same idea.

I made the mistake of giving Windows mobile a shot. Never again.

I've got the HTC Surround, and it is pretty good. The only real desires I have for it is if updates were rolled out consistently across all carriers and for Microsoft to quit trying to get everyone to start using Windows Live.

My mother in law and brother in law have them, and they're perfectly happy with 'em. They aren't exactly power users, though.

Hoping that the Mango release will make them a serious contender in the business world. I'll be testing one for work.

Why's that? Apple wants you to use their Apple/iTunes ID, and Android works best when you have a Google account. Only seems reasonable that with a Windoze phone that you use the MS equivalent no?

i heard the music player portion of them is pretty nice. i was looking at them at first instead of an android phone, but i don't know. i guess this new release is supposed to have fixed, or at least changed a few things. other than that, they seem like pretty nice phones. i mean, they're all pretty good, but after that it just depends on what you want. i think ios, android, and winpho7 all have their own strengths and weaknesses. it's really up to you to decide.

we've had a few users come by and want to connect to the hidden wireless network here. the last time i touched one of these damn things was about 6 months ago. unless they added the option, there is no way to manually enter an SID to connect to. you can only join visible networks. also, there is nowhere in the phone that you can look up the wireless MAC address.
i tell anyone who brings one in to take it back and get an iphone or android. i'd even take a blackberry over a windows 7 phone. |

yeah, i remember there were quiote a few things i didn't really like about it, the more i considered it. there is only one volume for the ringer and audio. i can't even remember what i didn't like at this point. my next phone will not be a winduhz phone.

My company issued iPhone 3G is getting long in the tooth (got it over two years ago). While it's been a great device, I am looking forward to trying out the Samsung Focus. I like that the Windows phones have MS Office features out of the box, which should be a real bonus for us. I'm also wondering if the WP7 devices can be managed via Active Directory.
I'm going to be one of one or two people testing them out, so if it they do blow ass, then we'll just stick with iPhones. |
