Default 2004 STi block, heads, and ecu into 2002 WRX?

The reason for the swap: I finally decided it was time to get a bugeye of my own and as opposed to buying at a dealership or elsewhere I chose to look here at Nasioc. I found one that appeared to be in excellent condition at a great price, (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1807279) some of you may have seen it. Needless to say I bought it. Turns out there were two problems, whoever changed the rear brake pads put the original pad back onto the right rear outside. That led to a ground out rotor and new pads needed immediately. The second and much larger issue was I checked all fluids except the engine oil; of which I was 2.3 quarts low. I had bought the car last friday at 11:00 AM and after about 150 miles at approx. 11:00 PM it died. The engine seized. Spun at least 3 rod bearings. I'll add a pic of what I found in my oil pan later.

The proposed swap: I can get a hold of an 04 STi engine and ECU with 14k on it minus the turbo, intake manifold, and injectors at a fairly cheap price. I have read that the STi and WRX intake manifolds are virtually identical; can I use mine? I guess the real questions I have are what can be used from my WRX on the STi setup and what else will I need to make this swap work.

Any info is greatly appreciated,
Thanks in advance!

for starters...manifold SHOULD work...u can reuse things like alternator, a/c, p/s...not sure about wiring...i was told if u use an 02 manifold then u can use an 02 ecu...the problem with that is the fact that if you go sti, u have .5 more liters...your going to need some type of tuning capability....stock injectors for the 2 engines are different...im assuming fuel rails are different...almost everything on subie motors are swappable except for wiring...once again i think u can use ur manifold which will permit the use of ur stock ecu but its not going to run right due to different liters in the motor and fuel...more air from that engine will be produced which will make the ecu play funky tunes....good luck

If the heads are good, then you could do a hybrid using a new 2.5L short block with your 2.0L heads, which would allow you to use your ECU and accessories. If you go with the '04 STi long block you will have to deal with the AVCS, which is also doable. I was going to use 2.0 heads on my '04 STi engine build but found the heads were cracked (not uncommon on the USDM 2.0L heads), so if you go that route I would recommend a tear down and cleaning to make sure everything is in good working order.
