Question IMBA Purchase?

Has anyone used the Subaru/IMBA program and if so what are your impressions? I'm considering subscribing to the IMBA and wonder if a better deal on a new Suby can be had by just dealing with a dealer. Opinions??

You will get 20 people telling you they got their car for $XXX under invoice. (what they won't say is that the dealer was a college buddy of their dad, they got screwed on their trade, etc etc.)

The IMBA deal is an easy no-hassle way to get invoice pricing. You may be able to get invoice or lower without it depending on the time of the month and your mad negotiating skillz. But imho for $25 or whatever it really doesn't hurt to have it as an option.

If you ride, you should join IMBA anyway.

yea me too, i had a hard enough time convincing the parentals to get a subaru, now that its finished... im trying to find a way to convince them to get (me) a wrx. ive heard you could get below invoice from bargaining, so i told my folks to sign up as a backup.

Thumbs up

I purchased my '05 STi in April '05 through the Subaru/IMBA program and couldn't have been happier. I bought the car and options for invoice plus a $375 advertising fee. Depending on where you live and what time of year, you can almost certainly get one for invoice or less, so I've read.
I live in Long Island, N.Y.(lots of people with lots of money) and they rarely sell for invoice(they don't have to) unless you know someone or it's at the end of the model year, if any are left! So in my case taking advantage of this program was a no-brainer!!! For a $25 contribution to a great organization it's a win/win situation.
Good Luck.

fwiw, the fine print on the IMBA stuff says that the STi is available on a "sold order basis" only - which means you don't get one off the lot, you have to order it and wait 4-8 weeks or whatever. May or may not be applicable now that they are more common. When I got my '05 a couple years ago, the dealer said they couldn't sell me one off the lot through the program even if they wanted to. After some discussion they worked it out (I suspect they just decided to give it to me for invoice and skip the VIP thing altogether.)

(then it turned out the one I wanted was already sold, so I had to order one anyway.)

Default imba

my father purchased his STI from pinebelt subaru in lakewood nj and got prefered pricing on an 06 steel gray sti. Mind you the car wasnt even on their lot, they had to get it from PA i belive..we got it for invoice so its possible but just call imba and have them send you the paperwork that certifies you as a member etc so the dealer belives you. good luck!

Well, Scrappydo did it and got a STI tonight. I went with him. I'll let him tell yall about it. Basically, the fact that he was going to be ellgable for the IMBA special gave him serious barganing leverage. It definetly help keep the ball in his court the entire time.

LOL yeah he caught the fever bad and couldn't resist. He's at the dealer right now getting her all purdy up.

Seems like this would be a good ploy to get a good bargan, but I wonder how long it'd take before either Subaru or IMBA said no more. Maybe they'll start requiring you buy a bike rack and have it mounted.

For instance, were I work, there's all kinds of really good discounts for Dells, and BMWs. Well, over the last few years, alot of employees have been buying Dells for dirt cheap with the discount, up to 20% less then the best deal you could get advertised. Now you can only get something like 12% and that's if you buy a bunch of software and krap you don't need along with the computer Same with the BMWs. No one was using the discount and it was a invoice type deal. Now you get something like 10% off MSRP.
