this thread makes me cringe in pain. i clipped a rock or something with a pedal earlier today and went very sideways, knee slammed into something, the frame i guess, or more rocks, but now it hurts like a mother****er. i had to pedal 7-8 miles to get back home, and i couldn't resist bunnyhopping over random stuff. might have been a bad idea. also the bike is making funky noises that i've yet to identify.

Today I just picked up a 2007 LeMond Versailles. Got a smoking deal on it, and decided to take it out for a 20 miler tonight. I ran more miles than any human being should run for the past 11 years, and biking is my next way to stay in shape. My knees are already thanking me.

I just picked up a Scott Speedster S40. Loving it so far. I have not had a road bike in 20yrs since my Schwinn World. I also have an old GT Tequest Mt. bike, the only original part left is the frame and headset. I am looking forward to road riding again and running a little less.

15th Anniversary Pics!!!
This months marks the 15th year that I have had my Cannondale M1000. During the summer of 1993, between my last semester at UW-Oshkosh and my internship in CO, I worked at a now-gone bike store named Bikeland. I sold my GT Avalanche so that I could order my M1000. She hasn't seen much action over the last few years, but back in the day, I could spend 6-7 hours in the saddle on a good day. I love this bike, and will probably never part with it. I contemplated adding a fork for years, and am glad now that I never did.
Highlights: Shimano DX derailleurs Shimano XT Thumb shifters Sims crank Mavic Crossland wheels Answer totally bitchin'-rad-gnarly bar ends (I don't recall the model) Shimano 1st gen SPD 747 pedals Ringlé (are they still around?) bottle cage and Anti-Chainsuck Thing Old school is the gold school: This brand of tire was popular back in the day: Blue/Black fade: Cannondale's Force 40 brakes (Supposedly increased braking force by 40% over conventional straddle-wire linkages of the time. These were a PITA to set up, but once set they were nice): Awesome thumb shifter!: Thanks for looking I also have a 1985 Cannondale road 'race' bike whose seat and head tube angles are more relaxed that those found on bikes today, as well as a GT Mach One frame and fork set that is begging to be built. |

Sweet Cannondale Hikeeba, it's good to see the old "crack-and-fail" frame is still going strong! The old-schoolness brings back some memories. Back when I started riding I almost bought a "Beast of the East" Cannondale. I drooled over that bike for quite some time, however, my first "real" mountain bike was a 1994 GT Karakoram.
Edit: Speaking of Onza, did you ever try any of their other products? They had these cam-type cantilever brakes that were pretty decent back in the day, and the worst clipless pedals ever that you had to change out elastomers to change cleat tension (back in the elastomer craze of the mid to late 90's). I rode those pedals for a while and they were absolute crap. |

I stilll have a 1987 Gary Fisher AL-1 frame sitting in the basement. It had SPD 525 then 747s, Kooka cranks, XTR shifters and derailers, Mavic 221 wheels with Hugi hubs, Ringle Stem, Flite seat and Manitou 2 fork. Great bike, I used it for ~12 years.
Now most of the parts are on my wife's bike (steel Kona hardtail). The hugi hubs still work fine. |

Thanks for the compliments! Yep, she has held up pretty well. Though having seen more pavement than dirt in her lifetime probably has lengthened her lifespan.
Wow, a Karakoram! Cool! I really liked my Avalanche. It was a comfy bike to ride, but it was a little on the heavy side. I was going to build up a GT Zaskar, but 2 other guys at the shop already had those, so I went the Cannondale route, partly to be different. The shop owner and one other dig-deal guy had the top-of-the-line Cannondale Super V. Wow, i thought that was the most awesomest bike in the universe back then! |

If it's in decent shape, and doesn't need any major components replaced, it should make a nice townie. Don't expect to be hucking any big drops, though.

old school is good.
I still have my original Cannondale race frame. It's green, very stiff and pretty much unbreakable. I've spent many years riding and racing that bike. iirc the angles were 73deg on both tubes with a not too long top tube and not too low bb. By todays standards it's a pretty hard ride with it's huge seat and chain stays. |
