Default Just asking.. don't flame me.

Some guy in the local club (of which I am not a member) approached me and was talking all kinds of stuff. Anyways he picked up a front end collision WRX cheap, and said he was gonna hook it up. He told me he would have 600 h.p in 6 months. I have not been in the forums a lot, and I see a lot of wheel power numbers but can a wrx get 600 at the crank safely??? Hey I am just checking up on this guy, so don't kill me .

hey there,

of course anything is possible. with the right tuning, parts, and a ton of $$ he can get 600 hp at the crank. i have been around a while, and i have not seen any power #'s quite that high on a 2.0 ej20. i also dont follow the bragging forum too much, so maybe i missed something....

i would say this guy is full of it personally. is he rich? like REAL rich? cuz that kinda power is going to cost a TON of $$, not to mention the dough to beef up the drivetrain, etc.

anyway, i would say he is full of cat dodo.

He's not rich... mechanic part time, and soldier the rest. I mentioned the transmission may need upgrade and he said..oh I'm getting the STI tranny too. I did not want to piss on him, so I nodded and said yeah that could help. If I'm not mistaken, I estimate his first mod will be the 3,000 he puts into fixing his windshield, bumper, fenders, radiator, door, roof, trunk dings/scratches/dents,headlight, and whatever I did not notice.

I was amazed at how calmly he told me he was gonna get STI tranny. Either he didn't konw the price, or he's hiding cash. but I don't like to comment on money, because I just got a 19 year old soldier with a paid off 2000 firehawk, and 10G in the bank.. so ya never know right??

I read somewhere the block will not be able to handle anything more than 400hp. So, I think he smokes crack Or, I do.

he is full of crap and has no idea what he is talking about.

he will need more than the STI tranny to hold that power.
he will need at least $1000 in engine management to power a car like that
a huge turbo
bigger strong block
stronger diffs, front, center, and rear

and in the end hed have a trailer queen

I think it possible, after all I got a 10 sec. eclipse with enough NAAWWSS to blow the floorboard off, while still powering my street glow and indash playstation, what can I say, I never even had anyone, i never even had my car.

600hp is very possible, definitely NOT on the stock engine. and definitely NOT on the stock transmission.

of course its all possible but its BANK. 15-20k easily.

also it wont be done with just 2.0L it will have to be stroked to at least 2.4L (i have yet to see a 2.0 that is not stroked and makes 600hp).

also guys, you dont have to be stinkin rich to put 20k down in the engine. its all priorities. my parents could both be driving ferraris but they woudl rather buy food, send me to school, live in a house, and retire. its all in the priorities.

I dont understand why not 600hp with just 2.0l
Here in sweden we have a guy called Per Eklund who competes in the Pikes peak. His Saab engine puts out 750hp with just 2.0l

True,its all about priorities!!

This is from an F1 site, and it's true:

"BMW's initial involvement in F1 took the opposite direction. The engine that powered Nelson Piquet to his second driver's title in 1983 was a derivation of the four-cylinder unit found in the BMW 2002, a sporty if not exactly lightning-quick little car. BMW downsized the engine to 1.5-litres to meet regulations, whacked on a great big turbo running as much as four bars of boost and got as much as 1,500bhp out of it in qualifying trim. Gerhard Berger said it produced wheelspin in every gear.

Times are different now of course and BMW came up with a bespoke engine for its re-entry into the sport with Williams last year. Part of the intake funnel design even made its way to the latest M3, accounting for 8bhp"

I own a BMW 2002, and am aware of the work done to change the stock 2.0L 4 cyl block into the 1.5L 1,500bhp monster, including strengthening the skirt of the block, etc., not to mention the special special fuel used to attain this performance...

oh, and this motor made about 1,700bhp and used an even more special fuel formulation for qualifying!

Of course high HP can be done with little displacement, but it co$ts $o much money...

The last year they ran turbos in F-1 there was a BMW qualifying motor estimated at 1,300 hp from a 1.5L (may have been a 1.3L).

I can't remember the boost pressure but I thought it was something crazy over 100psi. Oh yea <4hr expected engine life.

Its only money...

Here's a web site

http://www.iol.ie/~jordane/formula/formula1.htm

"The most powerful Grand Prix engine of all time was the 1500cc BMW Turbo charged unit. The engine used by the Brabham team in the mid eighties developed over 1500 Horsepower in qualifying trim."

You also have the 1986 Ford RS 200 EVO @ 650bhp from a 2.1L

Check out the Easy Street Motorsports 740 package. 740hp for $25k, but that's a fully built motor!!!! I doubt you can pull anything near 600hp on stock internals and an STi tranny. He's either blowing up his car, or blowing steam!!

the key to STUPID amounts of horsepower from a small engine is one or both of the following:

High boost
High redline

If you can get an engine to hold tons of boost, rev to the sky... or for god sakes, both.... only the imgination and the wallet are the limits in terms of attainable hp.

FYI- the turbo F1 beasts from the 80s ran ~4 bar of boost in qualifying trim and ~3-3.5 bar in race trim. I am not sure what they revved to... I would guess 9k++.

The fuel they used was 80%+ xylene... which is commonly used as a paint thinner... its octane rating is a mere 117 .

Pikes Peak hill climbers run as much as 80 psi on their motors!!! and the compression ratios can be as low as 4:1....

Easy Street offers a package just like this that will give 740HP. It includes NOS, so I'm not sure it that counts.

Our ESX 740 package is the mother of all new generation Subaru WRX's. Definitely an undisputed street weapon. If you want to own the road, then this 140mph+ 1/4 mile time slip giving monster is just what you need. This is the very same package used in our World Record Holding ESX.

ESX 740 Package Includes:

Complete TRP dyno tested engine
TRP internals and stroking
ESX/TRP front mount intercooler with aluminum piping
TRP fuel system
Micro-tech engine management
Innovative turbocharger
ESX up-pipe
ESX turboback exhaust system
Nitrous Oxide Injection system - 50 hp shot
ESX front grill badge & 3 ESX740 decals
ESX/TRP full-dog box transmission
ESX/TRP performance clutch

Fully Installed and Tuned:
$28,500.00
