The reason the previous poster suggested disabling DRLs is because they run the high beams at a lower wattage, which can lead to the filament burning out faster.
What If did Led drls and 9011s? Also do 9011s still run at the stock 55 watts?

Also I cut my high beam throw by probably 70%(from painting the bowls to dark) should I even mess with the 9011s or go straight to High Power Led

The HIR1's are rated the same 65w and life expectancy as the 9005's, so they should last same amount of time using the drls (I can't remember where I read it, but a reputable source said the low wattage drl mode shouldn't effect the life of the high beam). Maybe you got a bad set, which sux considering the price...

No. If you painted the reflector, there is not much you can do other than removing the paint. There is no LED plug and play bulbs that can produce sufficient light for highs or lows.

If you retrofitted your low beam projectors to bixenon (for high and low beam from the same source), you could use a cheap LED bulb in the high beam for drl with no safety issue.

Untrue, my HIRs only lasted 6 months before I disconnected the DRLs, it's not good for them at all

OK, I had misread.

Due to the necessary running temperatures, HIR bulbs are not good for DRLs. Edit: sounds like if you don't wire for 13.2v, you aren't getting them to full output anyway...

You might be able to make it work by running highs for a set amount of time each driving cycle to 'clean' the deposits, in order to extend the bulb life. So either try that experiment or just disconnect the DRLs or wire fogs as DRLs.

Be aware of the consequences of disconnecting DRLs, if you do that... O:-)

Exactly why you wire your fogs to act as full power DRL's. Problem solved.

Is this mod ok to do for non projector lights as well? I have sometime today to do this to my 2012 impreza but wanted to make sure it was ok for non projectors also.

There are a few '12+ guys on here who have done this with no issue. They all seem to take their lighting seriously, so glare shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for the reply. I bought the bulbs and put em in today. It does look brighter and only cost me 20 bucks. Hopefully nothing burns lol.

No prob. None have reported any overheating or melting.

Jr0bb, a little back on this thread, thought he might be having an issue with glare because he got flashed a few times, but he hasn't reported back since. They might have just been trying to warn him of something ahead...

I did this to the wife's 2012 a month ago. She loves the extra light. She's been flashed a couple of times, but when she cranks back with the high beams they get the message. I don't think they have enough glare to make you believe she is running with her highs on, but I guess some folks would. I might try aiming them better (down a tad) and this might eliminate the issue. Overall, she's happy with her headlights (I am too ) and no overheating probs either.

Haven't been flashed since actually. It only happened a few times the next couple nights after replacing my first set of burnt out h9s.

After switching over to H9 bulbs in my car, I can't stand driving my gf's Rogue at night because her headlights seem so dim. I told her I was going to upgrade her headlights too.

I had to aim mine perfectly to get the best light, and not get flashed. You do have to pay more attention to aim with these for sure. I haven't been flashed in years now.. but the aim is spot-on. Make sure you aim them when full tank, and maybe a few extra pounds of stuff in trunk and back seat.

Ok I am going to get picked on very bad for this butttttttttttt.. I did the HID kit from amazon and yes it looked very good and all with the 10,000k bulbs on a wrb rex. and no I never got flashed. I am now running into the bad problem of the passenger side light getting condensation inside of it. I am not sure if it is where I drilled for wires to go through or not (I know it was making a good seal) but my fix after reading many threads is, I ordered new dust covers and h9 bulbs and I am going to give my hid kit away.. So now that I am doing this all properly I have a question.. Does anyone know of a easy way to dry the inside of the light up before I install the new lights? I really don't wanna drop the bumper and pull the light out to get a blow dryer on it.

How bad is it? From what I remember it's a pretty common problem with these headlight assemblies an most people just live with it.

It's just a little right next to the turn signal and a little to the right side of the low beam.. It's funny because the driver side did it a little before I put the HID headlights in.. But I am going to switch back and if it does not clear up I am going to take it back to Subaru.. I have a 2014 wrx it should not have a issue yet!

Well i did the H9 bulbs today and cleaned the lens of water so now to see if the hid kit was really the thing causing the lens to fog!!! I have read many times on here that hid conversion will cause this so time to see if all the HID haters are correct or not! I can say that my HID kit looked very nice with the blue car and a 10000k bulb they stood out and looked fantastic. I never got flashed and passed friends at night and they always told me my lights never blinded them nor shined in there eyes..

No hid haters here. Maybe >6000k PnP kit in halogen headlights haters. HID itself will not cause moisture in headlights IMHO. Headlight work and mods can cause it though. Like having wires coming in the headlights from a hole in the rear cap. Or retrofitting and incorrectly sealing back the headlight.

Or leaving the opening for the bulb open too long on a humid day...

I did not read that but if you had condensation before then it is likely not the cause of course. My girlfriend's 2012 forester had condensation in a rear light too, replaced under warranty. I did not know this was a common problem with the more recent lights.

Yea I had a PNP kit from amazon same ones I have used in all my cars and SUVs.. Always very good kits but I did have to drill into the factory dust cap and I made sure it was a very tight seal.. It did it a little when I first got it then went away and then after the HID kit it came back after a week or so.. This morning after going back factory I had some in the passenger side once again. I am going to take it to Subaru for warranty.

did you add the HID kit on the stock Halogen headlights? or did you retrofit them? really considering of doing a PnP kit like you said you did if it doesn't blind anybody .

I did a pnp kit from amazon it was the Kensun HID kit. I have used them in the past and they work very well and no I do not think I blinded anyone with them. The only car I ever had a hid kit on and was flashed was my explorer and that is because it sites eye level with cars. I would think with a stock wrx how low the headlights are, if the headlight is adjusted properly you would not blind anyone regardless of projector. I took my kit off because I thought it may be the reason of my condensation but it was not and I do plan on going back to the HID because for my own personal preference I could see better with them even over the H9 conversion. That's just my opinion and how I feel about them.
