I am not sure that you can legally remove 70 lbs beyond the obvious (spare, jack, Cat back.) I know mine weighs 3025 but I have probably 20 lbs of stereo in there.

DMS50 coilovers (when they work, otherwise on V8 STI-RA takeoffs)
Cusco F/R swaybar
Cusco F/R strut bar (CF rear)
Perrin Endlinks
MRT Adj rear control arms
Al front control arms
Engine mounts

Lots of negative camber and whatnot
16x8 Volk Gram Lights w/ 245/45/16 R-Compound tires

VF29 turbo
APS DR500 FMIC
Perrin short ram
TXS exhaust w/Prodrive muffler
Aquamist WI system UTEC
STI-RA 6MT w/Suretrac LSD

Autopower race rollbar/harness bar

Race seats (15lbs)
Stock steering wheel & airbags still (can save weight here)
No back seats
Battery relocated to right rear in trunk
No AC

I'm probably going to quit autocrossing in it next year and prep the car for rally so I'm looking at getting a V7/V8 2L STi motor. Otherwise I would get a 2.5L US shortblock and slap some V7 heads on there.

Why would you put no comment? Who cares...

I think he's trying to be coy. Regardless, he's running an STI-RA tranny too, and the rest of the stuff wouldn't be too hard to find out.

not as impressive as you guys, but its a work in progress.....

JIC's 10k/10k setup depends on course & conditions
Perrin Endlinks
Engine/Tranny Mounts
GGR full turboback
PDE uppipe
ECUTek Reflash/Dyno Tune (worth every penny)
225/45/17 V700's

in my gargage waiting for my lazy butt...

autopower race roll-bar
sparco evo drivers side

I have some brake upgrades for the track, but on an auto-x course they don't really factor in. Like to get a gearset and some diffs next year. The car feels good and was actually somewhat competitive locally on steet tires, should be better on the R's.

Phil,
I didn't remember to ask you today, did you actually get all that stuff installed last weekend? I should've looked at the car when I walked by it.

I was running SM this year in an index'ed street tire class, my mods aren't too major. Just running SM due to a reflashed ecu.

JIC FLT-A2
Cusco stabi bars
Cusco strut bars
Cusco front Underbrace (possibly illegal?)
Aluminum control arms
STi rear links (trailing and lateral)
Advan RC2 w/ 235/40-17 A032R (use these for everything so I don't run Hoosier)
Recaro Pole Position seats
STi Spec C steering wheel
Godspeed up and down pipe
JDM JIC 505Ti (extremely light)

Engine - nothing special, just a boost controller for now, still like the stock spool up

now for the weight - at the moment the tar is coming out so it should be under 2800 pounds
weight is the key boys

no airbags
no stereo
no A/C
gutted trunk
no rear seat
and some other stuff

need to get an tubular exhaust manifold to get those cast manifolds off the front of the car.

Gutting your trunk and removing the "tar" is not legal.

All interior pieces not specifically allowed to be removed/replaced by the rules have to be retained. So if it's not the 1) back seats, 2) front seats, 3) steering wheel then you can't remove/replace it and still be legal. Right now I run without the stuff that was in the trunk locally because no one cares, but if I went to a divisional/national event I'd put all that stuff back in. If you want to build a stripped race car then Prepared is where you'll end up.

The only thing you can do is remove something if it facilitates installing something else, and the weight removal is less than 1 pound.

If it doesn't say you can... then you can't.

Regarding "stuff in the trunk"... items that are designed to be removed (i.e. not permanently attached by a bolt or snap) may be removed from the vehicle. This generally includes spare tires, jacks, tire removal tools, and in most cars, spare tire covers.

Yes I guess I should have clarified as I'm sure everyone takes out the jack/tire/etc as it's a stock class rule. I meant the liners and other assorted things that are physically attached in the trunk. Right now there is nothing but bare metal in the trunk...

Question - are there any divisionally/nationally competitive Suby's in SM, OTHER THAN Cobb's Conebasher? There's a huge gap between Conebasher and what I've seen posted here thus far. Are there any other 350+whp beasts with a front LSD and big Hoosiers out there?

A WRX was 4th in SM at the Peru tour and I think he was 2nd behind Dennis Grant on the 1st day, which is nothing to be ashamed of. There is a pretty big gap between the guys at the very top of SM and the rest of the guys, since it's such a new class and so much can be done to the car. Bob Tunnel drives a M3 in SM now and raised the bar for everyone else. Corey Smith's S4 I think is in the neighborhood of 600-700hp now...

I'm trying to decide now whether I want to take the next step or just focus on rally instead. I have a car that I'm building for rally that I happen to autocross. It's not difficult to build a SM WRX at this point, it just takes money. I've invested alot of that, but it'd take a new engine to go to the next step. So another $5k+ at this point.

I took the liners out when I was moving the battery to the trunk and just haven't put them back yet, they are at least 1 lb! It all adds up!

Honestly I know that removing all the trunk lining is marginal... I know the rule about if it doesn't specifically say then you can't business. I'd say I play about as fair as others do locally in the class and I'm not going to be running nationals because I don't care to. The guys that I run against all have a lot more tire than I do and more power, they just haven't figured out the weight part yet.

Removing the tar is something I'm doing just because I'm bored with the car. The carpet will stay in per the rules (some guys try to run without interior paneling and carpet in SM I really doubt locally anyone would have a huge beef or accept that it would give me a large advantage (tar removal I mean)... I wouldn't do it if I were running nationals as there's a lot at stake. (solo2 national champion is not high on my list of things to achieve in life personally) But locally most of the guys I run with don't even have their radio or A/C removed and most don't even remove the rear seat so I'm not that concerned with it. If everyone were spending big bucks to toss weight out of their cars locally then I wouldn't feel right about it.

A wrx can be competitive in sm nationally. I cannot say that my car was too slow to compete. Cobbs car may be overkill. There are several things that they did that may or may not help. their car win autocrosses. If Mark Daddio can run in a stinking neon and trophy at nationals, a wrx can surely win with the right driver. Autocross is much more about driver skill than car prep, even at a national level. The wrx that trophied at Peru was not radically prepared. It was not even as prepared as my car is. I believe that his name on here is silverbullet. He plain out drove me and beat some VERY prepared cars on the first day. I simply am not used to the crazy speeds involved in the Peru event. Dennis Grant's car has not ever had the valve cover off. Oh and not everyone would be happy to tell you all of their secrets. There is stuff going on with autocross wrxes that almost noe of you know about and no one discusses on the internet. If you want to find out, take a walk through impound.

I wish I had signed up for the Peru tour because I'd really like to see how my car and my driving would stand up to good competition. We have decent competition in this area and I've certainly been beaten this year, but it would be nice none the less to see how much I'd get beaten by top level drivers. I did an event in Peru the week before with the south bend car club. It was my second event in Peru. The concrete wasn't as sticky as I remembered (I was on street tires though the last time) but the courses there are fast, there is only so much you can do on a runway. This last time I was in 3rd gear for more than just a short bit, probably hitting 65-70mph.
