Lol. Yeah but you have the 2.0 and I want to keep my wagon. Love having the extra space. Nice try though lol

Also, does anyone know if a newer MY08-present wrx engine will mate up with a 04-07 wrx tranny. I was thinking instead of going with the full sti swap maybe I'll get a geared 5 speed, cause I've been told by many people that they're actually quicker than the 6 speed due to ratios and 1 less gear to change. Plus I want an engine with low miles and it's so much easier to find a low miles engine in the newer model year and every STI I find has 120K+ miles already on it!

I could always just send a beat up 2.5 to element tuning though and have them rebuild it lol. just trying to stay as cheap as possible for now.

Okay that's good to know. SOOO I could buy a low milage 2008+ wrx engine, get 06 tranny, driveshaft, rear end etc and swap it into my car. but then which wiring would I need. I'm guessing the engine harness from the newer engine would be pretty much it?

Think this tranny is worth what he's asking?

You're going to have to swap everything harness wise. Why 06 tranny? If you're going to do a stock / factory trans, go 07 sti trans. 6 gears and they're super strong. Otherwise, from the above posts, go ppg, the Wrx trans is an accident waiting to happen

yeah that's what I hear. That's why I was thinking about getting the PPG tranny. I hear that the STI tranny's are very strong, but because of the gearing and 1 less gear the ppg 5MT will be faster and have a lower idle at cruising speeds(for mpg considerations lol). Plus I read that there's more of a wiring headache with the 6 speed since it has the adjustable gearing thingy where you can change it from S to S# etc. You have any experience doing that kind of work?

I just said 06 because I didn't want to put 04-07. I was lazy lol.

I saw this one as well from a JDM STI. you know the difference between the JDM STI 5MT and a WRX 5MT? not sure if it would be more reliable therefore saving me some money so I wouldn't have to buy the 4500 ppg 5MT.

Meh, so it'd be best for me to just buy the PPG 5MT then. Plus I know it'll stand up to whatever I put it through. So when I upgrade the turbo on the longblock I won't have to worry about the tranny lol

yeah of course. Now I have a stupid question. What is the difference between a longblock and a shortblock. I just noticed that the guy with the engine has a longblock and built shortblock but I'm not sure which is better and why. The shortblock is cheaper but has many forged performance additions. I'm guessing it has to do with the stroke?

damn

I'm getting into this too fast lol. The guy with the engines has a full drivetrain as well minus the intake manifold

the guy with the ppgs also has a full drivetrain

choices choices. And I don't know enough to make an informed decision yet :/

Short blocks don't have the heads, long blocks do. Simple as that. Don't rush into it. Read up, and when you think you've got a good grasp, read up again. There's TONS of info out there. People's experiences, opinions, take it all into consideration. Set yourself a goal and work towards it.

Cool bro. Won't it be a bit of a drive from south central PA though? I'm sure there is something a little closer, but of course you're always welcome at out meet. Bring friends if you want. The more the merrier lol. Doesn't matter if it's subaru or not.

Yeah that's what I'm trying to do. But of course I would like to buy the parts about a month or so before I install them so I can go over them multiple times and ensure that I'm not missing ANYTHING. As far as internal upgrades on the blocks there are so many different options out there and I'm not too picky. I just want something that's going to last a while, has a little over 300whp. And rides fairly comfortably. I think that engine tranny set up (the built longblock with the PPG geared 5MT), a tune, and some new wheels would do though. The rest can come later. Like a bigger turbo, brembo's, etc.

SOMEHOW I got my wife to agree to let me have some free rein on what I put into it cause it'll be cheaper than spending 20K on a new-used car, as long as I'm keeping it cheap. As in less than 13K lol. ****, I'll primer the thing to save money if it can have a good combo like that lol.

so the longblock he's selling would be a hybrid since it's built 2.0 heads and a built 2.5 block from an 06 legacy. I think if I can get it all for 6500 it's definitely worth it. You?

I guess. Depending on what built would actually mean. Everything better be built for that price. I would want to know what the block has, what the heads have. Etc etc.

He actually just PM'd me this. How's it sound? Sounds like a damn good deal to me.

"From what I can sell you the 7 grand would include as listed for the motor.
Short block:
Fully sleeved pinned and o-ringed ej25 case.
Manley pistons. 100mm stock sti compression
Manley turbo tuff I-beam rods. rated for i believe 1000hp.
New factory oem black nitrate crank
ACL HX race bearings
ARP head studs
Cometic head gaskets

Heads:
Ported and polished
Manley valvetrain with dual valve springs
Manley stock size intake and exhaust valves
Kelford 272 cams
Im installing new valve stem seals since it seemed that one didnt sit properly and dont want someone to worry about any issues of pulling the motor and all to fix it.

accessories:
New gates waterpump with timing belt (not race belt)
Tomei timing belt guide
New STI oil pump
New OEM oil cooler
STI oil pan

Im sure I left some stuff out in there but If I remember I'll make sure I let you know what else it coms with. For another 600 I'll include the killerb oil pickup tube with is about 160 new, oil baffle new is about 70, and torque solution motor mounts which are around 170 new, large tmic with mishimoto intercooler silicone hoses which would cost around another 300 for it all and perrin turbo inlet which cost about 200 new and ill throw in the K&N intake since ive had it for years plus you would be spending a decent amount on this all.

For what you need from the drivetrain shouldnt be much since the impreza's and WRX's share a lot of the same parts. even though its a pain in the ass to install i would get a complete wrx harness from the ecu to everything that runs to the engine harness and all since you would need to run a boost control solenoid and what have you.

ill throw in my stock header up-pipe and turbo pending inspection to make sure its still in good working shape because I hate the feeling of ripping someone off even if its by accident."

I didn't look too far into it. But I'm curious what cams he has in it. It's a solid build. There's a lot of controversy over sleeves blocks though. You should gander at the pros and cons.
