how long you guy warm your car for?
is it detremental to let your car warm to the pont where the coolant is a few notches above the "c", or will a minute suffice and let it ride on idle and keep it under 2k rpm in 1-3? does not warming your car harm your engne?

I usually let it sit in the garage until the temp needle starts to move and then baby it out of my neighborhood. By the time I get to the road shes almost to full temp

~15 seconds to let the oil circulate around then casual light foot until it starts to warm up.
But you do not need to sit there idling for minutes for it to warm up. Waste of gas... This is also climate specific but in general you can go pretty well right after startup. |

Warm Up
I've got a 2013 Impreza 2.0 with the CVT transmission. When started COLD it takes 3-1/2 minutes before the idle comes down to 1000 rpm or so. When first started, the engine revs at 1800 for about 2 minutes...then drops to 1500 rpm for a minute...then slowly levels off to 1000 rpm or so. This is my first CVT transmission and I've been wondering if it is OK to just let it run for 30 seconds or so and then drop it into gear...anyone doing that or ?
Currently I let it run for the 3 minutes before I put it into gear... Any suggestions on what others are doing would be appreciated...thanks! |

I let mine warm up for an hour with the heat cranked so when I get in it feels I'm in Hawaii. It's like a mini vacation.

I never let my car warm up. I park my car in an attached garage and don't deal with scraping windows.
Regardless if it sits out at work and it's 8F, I start and immediately drive gently until it's warmed up. Letting your car sit around and warm up causes fuel dilution which isn't an ideal lubricant. Look at UOA's with high fuel dilution and the higher wear numbers that often go with it. I've owned my WRX since new, long been stage 2 and has 118k miles of trouble free service. |

So from the few legit posts I've read about this topic, does it make a difference if it's say: 20*F outside? I will start my car >10 minutes before I leave in the mornings so it's warm inside and the temp gauge is at normal level. I live right off a busy highway, sometimes I have to "gun" it to pull off and get up to 55-60mph speedlimit. There are also mountains and hills on my way to work and it can be hard to stay out of boost unless I want to be in say 3rd going 40+mph..

To answer the question OP, you don't need to. The only thing you should be worried about is high RPM/high throttle positions until it's at running coolant temperature for around 10 minutes(Oil usually reaches operating temperature around that time)
I've had my car for 90k miles(150k total milage on car) and I rarely ever warm it up. |

I only warm it up when it's 20F or lower outside. If I had to warm up every time I left work, that would just be dumb.

If my drive to work everyday was longer than 10 minutes I probably wouldnt let it run as long. Just trying to get the oil to operating temps for short trips.

Start it, wait about 5 seconds, then start driving. I try to keep it around 2.5k until it's hot. No higher than 3k. Once she's fully warmed up I open it up. Maybe I'll go to 4k as it's warming up but not 100%
Oil circulation is much more important than thermal expansion and other things that happen when the motor is hot. Oil circulation takes almost no time at all, it happens right when the car is started. |

I let my Sti idle for a minute, then drive for the first five minutes staying under 3K rpms and out of boost. Or at least until the temp reaches the first notch.
