Let me try to twist this around in a different way.

You're going on how great of a driver you are...how your tranny hasn't broken, etc. etc. --- but there's no way in hell that you've put your transmission through what drag racing would do to your tranny. If you drag raced your car as much as you rally cross/auto cross/ice raced, your tranny would've bit the dust long ago.

It's not fair to run around with your chest out because you don't abuse your transmission enough to break it.

I've made a set of Star Specs last 3 years. If I autocrossed all season for 3 years, do you think those same tires would've made it that long? I'm going to say no.

I haven't abused my Star Specs like you haven't abused your transmission. But does that mean that everyone's Star Specs should last 3 years? No. I just don't abuse my tires by racing them.

Same difference.

Mule testing spy shot. Looks like the latest gen Impreza to me.
Hopefully it's just the test platform.

It is..
I don't see why everyone is getting all pissy and ASSUMING that the impreza body they are seeing is going to be the next gen WRX/STi.

They don't realize that they are using the CHASSIS of the impreza, just like the BRZ is, to use as a base of the design.
To me it seems they are doing stress testing, and testing the new FA or FB turbo motor.
Its obvious that's what's under the hood due the filter being on top.

This is what Star Specs with 3 seasons on them look like. I just took them off about two weeks ago. I made those last nearly this entire season too even though they were pretty much spent 2-3 races in. I think nursing those along this year has made me a better driver.

As far as the whole puffing out of chest/great driver thing…..

You are right about one thing, I don't ABUSE my transmission to the point of failure. You can drive a car hard, race in a variety of events, hours of seat time at race speeds, having tons of fun learning to operate said car on different surfaces, do this for a decade, continue to drive that same set up as your daily driver…..and keep on motoring.

Or

you can throw a pile of go fast parts and a tune on a Rally based car, put on some sticky rubber, and go launch your car down a 1/4 mile track IN A STRAIGHT LINE for 12 seconds a few times until you lunch the transmission into a bunch of pieces and spend thousands rebuilding it.

Doesn't take much of brain power to figure out what I'm gonna do.

I'll put this in the clearest terms I can. If I am going to go drag racing….I am going to bring the proper tool for that application, something purpose built, something that can break into the 10's at least trapping at 130mph, something that will get my heart pumping, NOT a 12 something second AWD RALLY based production sedan that I use as regular transportation.

I'm not the only one with a WRX who has made their "glass transmission" last. There are lots of examples out there. That doesn't make me great.

Just a self imposed pause.

I've built a lot of relationships here over the years. I cherish those. This place became convenient as a central locale for me to communicate with friends. Occasionally, to take pot shots at easy targets.

When you've been around here as long as I have, seen people come and go, trends and styles going in, out, and coming back again***8230;.well, it made me reflect. Think about anything in your own lives that has held your interest for over a decade. The list will be short.

Let's face it, I'm a 45 year old soon to be professional. I like driving hard and competing. I will be mainly sticking to the race threads and classifieds. I've had a fantastic summer; ridden my bikes nearly 8000 miles since school ended, completed a bunch of projects and made some great memories.

But thanks for the sentiments. I've really missed seeing you out there on the courses. Hope to see you again there soon.

I also got bored and needed some entertainment between racing for the next couple weeks before school starts again.

Had the historian at Lotus do a little research on my car.

In 2005 3,321 Elises were made.

Of those 302 were orange
Of those 244 had black leather
Of those 73 had the touring pack (power windows, cruise... and I think A/C)

Wonder how many WRXs were made? Prolly over 3000 just in this state, I see them everywhere!

That's nothing =p lol there were only ever 1,243 1988-1988 Mazda 323 GTX brought to the United States. I have 1 and I only know of a handful that are still around the country to this day. Mazda only produced it to compete in PWRC. Which it won in 1988 & 1991.

Yes but can you drive it? Lol I think zoom wins this one, although it would be badass to see it running.
Seems like it would make a perfect ice racing car.

Yea he works with me at Trans. He should be adding some go fast parts to the M3 very soon. I tried to convince him to get a GTR, but he's thinking about a 2011+ STI hatch to have fun in and just DD the M3. He has orders back home to New Mexico.

Not bragging, just thought it was interesting is all. I had no idea they had that low of production numbers. I had heard from a few people they made about 5000 in 05.

I'm not sure how many were exported to the US. The 3,321 number was how many TOTAL were made in 2005.

There are tons of "special edition" and what nots that are super low numbers. One of my friends had an 86 Dodge Omni GLHS. Only something like 500 where made. Freaking car scooted too, made over 200hp

Yea it's definitely cool to have a limited production vehicle. Well until it comes to finding parts.
