Very low MPG and barley starts
I have a 2005 sti with all supporting mods to run e85. Still stock turbo and intercooler. Also just installed a catch can. Pcv to can, then can to turbo inlet. My problem is my gas mileage has went way down! I'm talking like130 out of a full tank, and since it hasn't gotten cold it has a hard time starting. Of course I have switched back to my 93 map and is what I'm currently running, but I have no idea about tuning or what to even log for that matter to see if everything is normal. Help would be much appreciated. I'm currently searching how to do a data log on my AP right now but would like some thoughts. I have check AFR with my Cobb and at idle it's 14.7 WOT hitting 10-11. What else should I look for? Pulse width or duty cycle? Sorry for such a noob question I'm sure I'm going to get flamned but I don't wanna f my car up bc it's my dd.

I'll ask some dumb questions...
When was the last time you changed the battery? The spark plugs? |

Filter looks good, battery changed less then 10000 miles ago and spark plugs is a good question but they are being changed out this weekend. I guess I should have included that. My injectors are making a super loud ticking noise also.

I could be off my rocker, but doesn't running E85 require more than just a tune?
E85 has about 20% less mpgs than gasoline. Right now with the colder temps and winter gas and assuming there's no issues with the OEM fuel system handling E85, you could be seeing up to a 30-40% reduction in mpgs compared to those in the warmer months prior to going with E85. In the winter, it will be harder to start an engine that wasn't designed for E85. You might also want to check and make all seals are secure on the lines and pipes you changed out. Vacuum leaks kills driveability and mpgs, assuming the leak isn't so significant that the car won't even run. |

Is the 130 miles/tank on e85 or regular gas? What are you running now? What is your current mileage? The original post is a little confusing in regards to what you were running when you got bad mileage and what your mileage is now that you've switched to 93.
There could be a lot of different things causing your problem. I guarantee you that it is NOT standard e85 mileage though, even in the winter. |

Battery less then 10000 miles ago. Air filter looks good and spark plugs being changed this weekend. I guess I should have said that. Car has 81000 miles on it. Also iv noticed my fuel injectors have been ticking louder then usual. I tend to think worse case scenario with my car bc I have the worst luck ever lol.

Sorry for the double post didn't know it went through the first time. I seen about 165-175 on e85. I'm currently running 93 and first time I switched maps to 93 my MPG seemed normal, it's only here in the last month or so iv noticed it drop hugely! I just filled up, and I'm on 3/4 tank and only went 24 miles, yes I let my car warm up a bit since its cold but no more then prolly 15 mins total a day. I have all the mods required to run e85 not just a tune.

So your problem really has nothing to do with e85 then. You're running 93 octane on a 93 octane tune and getting craptacular gas mileage, correct?
You should start by logging your AFR, AFR Correction, and AFR Learning while idling and driving normally. Do you hear any exhaust or boost leaks? You should also take a peak at your DAM for good measure (no need to log it, just see what it currently is on the AP). BTW - WOT AFR readings from the AP are less than useless, don't even bother looking at it. |

Correct. I just put that I have two tunes bc I didn't if maybe switching back and forth could do that. I will see what all that stuff when I get off work. I brung my ap with me so I could monitor it.

So I changed spark plugs, and now it won't turn over. I have a buddy coming over tomorrow to look at it, but iv put the old plugs back in and still won't start. Don't get it. I got iridium one step colder and they came gapped to .38 so I gapped them to .28 and found out that's bad. So I'm exchanging them for new ones but how do I gap them if your not suppose to yourself? They come pre gapped to .38.??

Have you logged anything yet? It never sounded like a spark problem, it sounded like a fueling problem. Logging should have been the first thing you did...2 days ago. It lets you see how things are running BEFORE you start swapping parts to see how things change.
