Default Escort Cosworth...very cool

I've always thought they were cool...ranking right up there with the WRXs and EVOs...

Anyone else love em and wish Ford would build em here (even if it's the Focus Cosworth)...?

Sun International got some of the ok'd to be brought into the US. There are a few legal copies floating around. If someone wants to host it, I have a 45MB AVI of an ad for the Cosworth Escort. It has Miki Biasion in it. Kinda cool, but a cheesy soundtrack.

Ford stopped making them in 1995.

And the firm that had the VCP (at last check) approval was no longer a RI and could therefore not get them into compliance legally.

You could if you went through it all again, but it would cost >$45k and according to the guy I spoke to at the DOT several years ago if they had their choice over again of approving the VCP they would not.

They were very commonly stolen and/or wrecked, also, so if anyone is thinking of importing one, do your homework!

The Sierra Saphire cosworth is a slightly cheaper and understated verison of the same car.

I know a driver at STPR had one, during stage 7 his clutch blew and his wife was freaking out. It was a hot little car...though I don't know how fast it was.

In stock form, it was roughly the same as the WRX is now.

One of the New England rally teams brought theirs to a rally-x in VT. They raffled off (free) who would be able to have a ride around the course in it. Talk about a 'point-n-shoot' car.

Oh, the passenger ride was won by slvrblt here. PM him about it.

Escort Cosworths were the shizzle. I guess Ford just knew there wasn't much market for an AWD turbocharged compact. I guess at the time there really wasn't.

except it was 400lbs lighter and had a stronger drivetrain

why don't you look to import the aussie Laser TX3, it's a Mazda 323 GTX that isn't as ugly(i hate the rear end) and it looks almost identical to the american escorts of the day. tint the windows and no one would know any better :0)
BTB i's seen 400hp on stock internals/turbo with a 323 GTR so =Þ to cossies

that's not what i heard. CAR recently ran the RS w/ the VW R32 and the Xsara...the FWD RS handled "brilliantly" IIRC.

I'm looking at the Burago Ford Escort RS Cosworth die cast model right now. It sits on my desk at work. They are awesome cars and even cooler in person. There was one in Boulder, CO that was legally imported.

The Focus RS is "supposed" to be an amazing car. Obviously I haven't driven one, but that's what I've read in most magazines.

I don't know if he still is, but there was a guy around here (NH) that was selling his Cossie rally car in the want ads. I'm sure the Trunkmonkey Racing Guys probably know who he is. I think the Price tag was $120,000 if i remember correctly.

Stig Blomquvist also drove Carl Merrill's Escort Cossie in 1999 at Maine Forest Rally. Guy who owns that one now, has been trying to sell it for the last few years.
