It probably will..I dyno'd 360whp on a mustang dyno on my stock 2.0L block, heads and tranny and mine lasted for about 3-4 months..If your gonna be running in the range of 275whp, in my experience you will be fine as long as you dont launch it all the time..Good luck..

depends on how you drive the chances of that happening increase when you start to make more power. but there are people on here that have blown their trannies at only stage 2. hope that helps.

dont bang gears and dont dump your clutch.

I've got 20something launches (hard launches) at roughly 300, not too hard shifting 1-2, a little harder 2-3, and flat-foot 3-4, and my tranny FEELS just fine, no telling what it looks like inside. The 1-2 shift is the hardest to do fast, yet still smooth and not to hard, so be careful. People talk about 3rd gear being weak, but I've seen far more broken 2nd gears

When you wrap the car around a tree or lightpost the transmission might have some trouble shifting. Similar result when you get busted and they tow your car on two wheels.

I've been contemplating which way to go if/when my 5mt on my 02' WRX goes...

Still haven't stepped up to stage 2, but will be very soon.

I'm debating whether it may be worth a shot trying a new 5mt when that time comes...being that they beefed up the newer mt's a little, and since I have beaten the hell out of my trans for the last 70K miles (I got it with 19K already on it too, and it's holding up well.

Don't really like the upgrade options that exist...
Sti 6 speed, adding 80 lbs...
PPG rebuild...eating ramen for a year to pay for it...
RA gears...lots of people say don't waste you're money...
Then again, I'd probably have to jump off an overpass if I decided to try another 5mt and it failed right away.

Why? The original poster 1) posted in the wrong forum, 2) acknowledged participating in a practice that gives all Subaru owners a bad rap, and 3) asked a question about a subject that has been asked and answered to death on these forums (I know the answer and I haven't owned a 5MT Impreza since 2002).

Again, I believe (and my experience suggests) that it is high amounts of torque and the application of it that breaks/strips gears. If it comes on hard and fast those thin little gears can't take it, but they can take hard shifting and even some launching when the torque levels are lower....just my 2 cents...

Yeah, I have to question the consistancy of the quality control on these transmissions... Some folks are lucky, other's aren't. My original transmission had a bearing failure. I bought a used replacement '02 trans it lost 2 teeth off of second gear literally coasting into my driveway at <5mph, and 2nd gear still worked! But who knows how the previous owner treated it, probably was just a time bomb waiting to go off anyway, better in my driveway than having to get it towed from somewhere far away.

I think a lot of times there are small cracks that develop in the case hardened surface of the gear teeth during hard driving that then finally give up later on down the road, sometimes just cruising around.

Anyone at the 175k miles+ range? on OEM 02-03 WRX trans?
@ 270whp? +-10whp

So far my 1st gear is kinda hard to get into. Never bang gears & launch. I do, heel-toe as much as I can on off/on ramps.

I have an 02 Wrx wagon... Just did a v7 6mt swap w brembos the whole deal... Absolutely love it. Pulled my 5 speed in perfect working order w 178k on it... Second clutch. Car was stage 1 then 2 for like 80k, I went stage whatever at 160k with a blouch 18gxt and every supporting mod trans was fine for it all. Still goes into 1st when rolling when it was pulled. No grinds etc. never slammed gears or beat the hell out of it. Selling it this weekend to make some money back and I'm sure it has another 50k + in it
If treated well.

I've beaten the hell out of my 1st gear, I don't think it's the weakest. I can't tell you how many times I've spun tires halfway through 1st, a few times I left a cloud of tire smoke, definitely no love for 1st gear

^ you've heard wrong....quit listening to 'those' people...

I've been over 300whp for over 2yrs/35k miles. The last 6 months I've been over 350whp on pump(370whp on meth). Stock 5spd w/ over 100k miles on the engine/tranny. You'll be fine daily driving as long as you aren't slamming gears.

I slam gears daily, I'm stage 2 only, the transmission is original and has held up well. 131.5k miles.
