A call to your local parts house would be my first thought...

yeah they're the same thing, or at least are interchangeable and you could use it.

Don't use fram though. They're really poorly constructed and are more likely to fail than other filters. wix/napa brand, purolator, mobil 1, and oem are all good.

It's 3593A, but don't use Fram, it's crappy build quality. Purolator makes a good filter that's pretty inexpensive, and the others mentioned are all great quality.
www.subarugenuineparts.com has a 6 pack of filters and crush washers for a decent price, IIRC.

other good ones are the Mobil 1 filter, and the Napa Gold, which are pretty much the same thing. K&N Filters are really good too, but i prefer the above two.

and just in case you go to a shop that doesn't have your car listed in the filters catalog (which happened to me several times before i memorized the part #), the 2.2 uses the same oil filter as a '92-'95 honda civic, which everyone carries.

$12 for a filter seems a little absurd to me though. Purolators are like $4.

Napa Golds are like $6 each, and they're a lot better. one of my friends sliced one open a few years back, and he said it was the exact same internally as a K&N filter. that was just based on visual observation though, i don't think he had an actual way to measure the filter media.

AC Delco is even better, has the anti-drainback valve and is only $5.

I run Bosch 3310 on my subbies, and AC Delco's on everything else.

For the love of god, please don't run a Fram on anything you care about.

Fram is definitely the best...NOT.
Other brands use their own part number.
Bosch 3310 for example.

or Mobil M104...i think. it's something like that.

best thing to do is ask at the parts counter wherever you go. if they can't find it in their system, ask for one for a '92-'95 civic with the 1.6.

the design is also the same as any year Honda Odyssey, IIRC. I can't see how they wouldn't have it in their system. Pretty much all EJ subarus use the same filter design.

Purolator makes the Walmart filters. I've always used those on my vehicles.

It's probably one of the cheapest you will find. They have a computer or a book in the aisle so you can reference the model numbers.

I don't think they are. Has anyone looked inside them? I didn't see the drain back valve in the middle on a Supertech filter.

They certainly look like nice filters though, no sharp unbeveled edges on the metal unlike the Frams.

I got my Hella 500s at Advanced Auto for $39.99 I think. And I don't even think they were on sale. Check around - I think all the auto parts stores do price matching now.

Really? That must be some odd regional pricing. Unless you accidentally bought Hella Optilux driving lights? Because those are more down in that price range...

i think the wal mart in my area sells the 500s for like $59.99, and the 500FF for like $5 more. i'll have to check on that again though to be sure, and i don't think that every wal-mart carries them.
