Default Any Lexus IS250 owners

I just put a deposit on a car for my wife, a 2008 IS250 AWD fully loaded with 26,208 miles. Blue book said retail was $29,xxx. I talked them down to $22,990. I looked over the car thoroughly and couldn't find anything wrong with it except a bad respray of one of the wheels to fix some curb rash, a small area of touch up paint on the drivers front fender, and it's going to need a new set tires soon. I beat the crap out of it on the test drive to see if it had any rattles, creeks, growns, or apparent mechanical issues and it drove straight without any pulling under acceleration or braking and the engine was strong. Is there anything else I should look for that is specific to these cars? I assume with such low mileage and being a tarted up Toyota it should be fine. Any thoughts?

Probably best off asking at a Lexus forum. Truedelta has it pretty highly rated reliability wise and Consumer Reports has almost all red circles. Brakes, fuel system, paint/trim, and squeaks/rattles have average or worse. I'd give it a good thrashing every once in a while because it doesn't have the dual injection to prevent carbon build-up (only direct injection).

I didn't know that. Thanks for the info. I though all DI Toyotas had the dual injection.

Srs answer incoming:

It sounds like you got a good price. My brother just bought an '08 rwd with 40k miles for around $25k. That was the best deal in the area, so I would think that under $23k is great.

Everyone says that they are tough to see out of, they are correct. Everyone says that the 250 is slow, I disagree. It is not quick but it is not slow.

My wife said it was easier for her to see out of than her 2011 Outback. It certainly is faster and better handling.

I've seen multiple complaints of the HID headlights randomly shutting off anywhere from 1 time to 3-4 times on long trips and having to turn the switch on and off to get them to come back on. Several reported that their dealer diagnosed that the bulbs were going bad and changed them for $650, but the issue wasn't fixed. Sounds like a ballast issue to me???????

Anyway, do all of them have HIDs. I'll have to check to see if this one does this before taking delivery.

I'd imagine that HIDs are standard in those.

It looks like they are. That would suck if the headlights didn't work properly and shut off while driving.

My wife has an 08 IS350 since new, and it has been a very good car. I think the first car I have ever owned that has never had a single problem in its 50k miles.

I have an 06 IS350 (got an awesome deal on it $15k bucks with 65k miles). I really like it so far. Your pricing seems good and you'll have the reliability of a Toyota.

My buddy has an 07 250 AWD. Loves the car, but you can feel the power difference between that and the 350 RWD. Either way, I use mine as a DD and i like the comfort and performance. As far as being tough to see out of, I would have to disagree. It is 'slightly' long at the nose when sitting behind the wheel, but you figure it out quick.

Check for recalls. There is a TSIB for the carbon build-up issue. I haven't had any problems on mine with just turning 60000 on my 2008 250. But it is a prominent issue on the 06 - 08. I think there was also a recall with the fuel pump maybe too.

HIDs are not standard but if it has the ALS, it's equipped with HIDs. Mine have shut off one time in the year that I've owned it. I switched to Garax bulbs and haven't had any issues since.

It's a great car. I put a set of BCR coilovers on my AWD which have led to some issues. Well, not really issues but I'm not happy with the ride quality at the height that I am at. Check out clublexus.com for any info. Helpful group of ppl over there.

I had a PPI done at the local Lexus dealership and it came back no issues and they performed 2 recalls on it. The fuel pump gasket one and the floormat one. Picked the car up today and ordered a set of Potenza RE970AS tires for it. The tires on it are nearing the wear strips and making a little noise. The wife loves it. My son was tickling his nuts with the seat cooler. Everyones happy.

Now someone talk me out of trading my 2000 Boxster for the 2005 black on black 997 Carrera cabriolet they have on the lot. They gave me a really good trade in and it's only $37k with 60k on the odometer. The passenger side window regulator needs to be replaced, which the dealer said they would do, but other than that, it's flawless. If I do that, I think I'll sell the OB and get my son something cheaper, though my wife wants to keep him in the OB because it's safe.

My wife thinks the IS250 is fast and I'm not going to tell her any different. She mainly wanted the AWD because she drives in heavy rain a lot and commutes in it an hour each way. This car will be staying 100% stock exept the kick ass tires that are going on.

I never had that happen in 80k miles of ownership on my 350. Except for 2 TSIBs and oil changes/tires, the car was maintenance free.

It is also nice to pull up to the dealer any day of the year and get a free car wash. I thoroughly loved that car and have no complaints about it.

Edit: Wait; I lied. The brake fluid was changed at 30k per scheduled maintenance but the dealer did it for free because they took more than a day to do one of the TSIBs.

Seriously considering a 06 IS250 AWD w/95K miles. I'm just on the edge with the reviews that say it's really down on power. Current owners, previous owners, and people who's driven one before, is it a total slouch? Or does it feel zippy? It'll be used for city commuting.
