Do I have to remove the IC all the way to install Oil Temp in Front Gallery?
I did a search and it shows people removing their Intercoolers but they are doing other installs like samco hoses and bov. I was wondering if I could just loosen the IC and push it aside to install the sensor?

Im assuming you mean the galley plug thats un ther the throttle body. It is a lot easier if you remove the whole intercooler. Also, its even easier to remove the IC if you unbolt the BOV from the IC.

I second that (with the same assumption, since the front plug isn't near the IC). Even with the smaller WRX intercooler, working around that area is very difficult.
In addition to unbolting the recirc/BOV, loosening the hose clamps to the turbo & intake manifold, it may help to loosen the metal bracket that holds the IC on the left hand side. There may also be a hose that gets in the way; I'm not sure if this is also the case in the STi. Iirc, simply loosening the hoses, BOV, & bolts & pushing the IC to the side doesn't give you enough additional room. If you want to try install without removing the IC all the way, imho you'd need the crow's feet & a wrench type allen key. (It is very difficult to remove the original blind plug with a simple non-wrench allen key) |

I have the crow foot and hex bolt needed. I will just remove the IC just to be safe. I didn't want to have to fight to get it back on but oh well. thanks for the help.

Looks pretty crowded in that area compared to the EJ205, with the extra breather hoses on the 257. Make sure you let us know how it goes.

I did not need to pull the IC off to get the plug out, however I ended up pulling the IC off anyway to get the adapter and all that back in. IMO it's much easier to work with the IC off.

I've been thinking of adding an oil temp gauge, but haven't figured out where I would install it. What adapter(s) did you need to fit the sensor into that location? Which gauge and sensor did you use? Tx...

You have two choices of where to install. The front oil gallery under the alternator. This is where the stock oil pressure gauge stuff is installed. There is also the rear oil gallery under the IC. It's pretty easy to find. Use a 5/16" allen wrench to open it up. Then use the below:
Subaru plug for stock oil pressure sender: Part # 11024AA210 Subaru bottom washer for the Subaru oil plug: Part # 037018200 Total should be about 10-15 dollars for those parts from the dealer. My Omori gauges came with everything else needed to complete the install. |

Sorry to split hairs, but the oil gallery plug in metric is 8mm. I know 5/16 would fit, I just prefer to use metric tools on japanese cars
