Enginuity-tuned by me 2006 WRX - stage 1
Ok, I had a little time to kill before I fly out to Boston tomorrow so I figured I'd finish up the stage 1 tune I've been working on (and off, lol) for my car and then take a little trip out to DB Performance to put it on the sled for a few pulls. FYI, I own a 2006 WRX wagon; stock engine with the exception of a Prodrive muffler.
So here's what I did -- 3 pulls with my stage 1 tune and then flash back the stock map and take 2 more pulls. The final results aren't that impressive when you just simply look at the max numbers. HOWEVER.....when looking at the torque/hp overlays between the two there is a huge difference. So here's what I put down: wotvs stage 1 super awesome jdm euro tune 227 wtq 201 whp stock (boooo! ) 197 wtq 180 whp Now back to the part on the plots.... On average there is a difference of +30 to +50 gains in wheel torque from around 3k rpms out to 5k rpms. The nice little torque spike that Subaru puts into their tune is there for advertisement (and to make my max torque numbers not look as good. ). Overall there is a pretty large gap between stock and my map which puts a big grin on my face, hehehe. Regarding HP to the wheels, there's a +20 to +30 gain over the stock calibration pretty much from 3k rpm to redline. Overall both wtq and whp are significantly higher and that's what I'm happy about. yay. The other thing that is kind of wacky about the stock tune is the horrendous delay in switching over to open loop fueling. As a result, I was running at ~13.6:1 @ 4k rpms before it finally dropped down to ~10.2:1. Yikes! A final thing to note is that pull #4 was right after flashing back to the stock map. As a result, the IAM/DAM wasn't at it's full value until about halfway through the pull. Pull #5 had an IAM/DAM of 1 and as a result added in the entire knock correction map. I guess I should've done a Vishnu reset before doing pull #4, hehehe. But as you can see, a few extra degrees of timing will go a long way. Ok, first up is the stock plot. ....and here's my tune. ...and here's a comparision between stockZors & t00nzors from hell Here's a comparision of hp and boost. The stock boost curve is t3h suX0r. And here's hp vs afr for both tunes. Note the insane lean condition of the stock curve caused by the OL/CL delay. eek!

There's a guy I know who put down 217wtq and 211whp with his stock STi there.

A LOT better than stock, lol. I actually drove home on the stock tune simply because it had been a long time since I ran it that way and wanted to do a street comparison.
I totally forgot how jerky and laggy the stock tune was! My current tune is pretty good for a daily driver -- instant torque on tap at nearly any speed. I seriously don't know wtf Subaru was thinking when they made the stock map for this car. |

Wow excellent job tuning! And at only 14psi and practically stock car you've got alot of fun times ahead of you when you decide to do some more modding or up the boost! Getting there is half the fun IMO.
what is this flashing back to stock map mean? Ive only tuned using a UTEC how does your EM let you switch between maps? |

Oh, there's going to be plenty of power to be added onto the car in the future. Next in line is my old turboback (had an '04 wagon before this one) + my old Crucial uppipe + an STi tmic + pnp'd headers + a custom GrimmSpeed HiFlow crossover and finally a GM BCS. I'm planning to run 18-19psi in the midrange and then see what kind of boost is still doable on the top end. I'm guessing I'll probably have to taper down to around 15ish by redline. My initial goal when I got the car was to hit 300wtq on the stock turbo, but I don't know if that'll be possible on this dyno. It reads pretty low; even for a dynodynamics.
And as far as switching maps goes, I simply used my laptop + ecuflash (the openecu program) to flash the stock ROM back onto the ecu. It takes about a minute do do. |

Nice job man.
Like I said in my post on enginuity, the stock 06 ECU has more learning ability than just the IAM at 1. I helped someone over the phone with getting his tuner going. The did a fast learn on the OSECU EF test map and it gained 11 HP and 25 TQ even with the IAM already at 1. Too bad you didn't do the whole fast learn. Anyway, nice tune, nice curves, I bet it drives nice. |

Also get that AVCS tuning down man, that could get ya major gains.
Edit: Actually did you tune AVCS? It looks like you may have. Last edited by gabedude; 02-23-2007 at 10:09 AM. |

Great looking tune, nice flat boost curve and nice flat AFR curve. +30ft/lbs is good! Must be much smoother than stock.
Yeah, if you put the captions above the plots I think it'll be easier to read, too. |
