Default Torn Carpet

So about 2 months ago, I somehow tore a small hole in the carpet in front of the drivers seat, driectly below the ignition (probably from the bottom of my shoe or something). I put a quarter next to give it some scale.

After a month or so, i noticed the hole stated growing in size.

My question is this: Since this is a leased car that I will be turning in next year, do you think its going to be considered a major hassle when they start going over the "wear and tear" of the car?

I was going to try and patch it up, either by gluing the frayed edges back to the underliner, but then I thought that might be too much of a mess whenever they try and fix....Thoughts?

I do have floor mats (you can see the indentation from the spikes at the bottom of the pic), but the tear is about two inches above

Do you have to floor mats in and the tear is getting bigger? Get rubber floor mats and before you turn it in just super glue down the tear so they dont see it during the inspection.

I think patching it up with something is a good idea so the hole doesn't grow any larger. maybe choose something not permanent cause its on a lease.
