Thumbs down Similar challenges in ordering an MBP 2013 w/CVT

Howdy all,
I'm glad I'm not alone in my experience thus far with one my local Subaru dealers in Oklahoma. I ordered a MBP 2013 CVT Limit with no moonroof or other significant upgrades back on 9/3/12.

At the time of the order I got the same 6-8 week time estimate, but never any update after that. So I called a few times trying to get a date out of the dealer. Ultimately my car won't come in until December

The light at the end of the tunnel is MBP 2013 limit w/Moonroof at port that he may be able to swap with another dealer in north Texas.. (crosses fingers)

My dealer mentioned that if I were to order a car tomorrow I wouldn't get it until.. April 2013.

I can't believe how hard it seems to be to get these cars.

I lucked out that the configuration I wanted except for the color happened to be in the pipeline for my local dealer. I wanted silver, but would've had to wait months, so I settled for the DGM already in the pipeline.

My dealership told me that these cars are pretty much pre-sold before hitting the lot for near MSRP, at least here in Minneapolis. At first, I though they were full of it, but after looking around, and lurking on this site, I realized they were telling the truth.

Here in Minneapolis, they rarely have these cars on the lot. I'd imagine they could sell a lot more if Subaru had more capacity. If you're in the snowbelt, this scarcity and lack of incentives pretty much guarantees good resale value, something that can't be said for many other automakers.

Just emailed SOA again yesterday and I now have a VIN at least

So at least that's progress. Having a VIN means it's on a ship, right? I thought conventional wisdom was than from the time you get your VIN, you're just a couple of weeks out. Is that still the case?

I'd also love to take advantage of some kind of accessories/warranty credit. Do you think SOA is who I should ask, or my dealer, or both? Sounds like arsa13 had good success with SOA so I'll ask them next time I make contact.
If you have a vin it means your car is made, I believe. I'm not sure if it means anything other than that for sure at the time you're given the vin.

If I were you'd I'd ask SoA for a credit now, before your car arrives so you can get the most from them before your car arrives at the dealer. Personally, I'm going to deal with my dealer when my car arrives, because I don't really have any leverage now with them.

I was persistent, polite, honest and reasonable with SoA. I didn't yell or swear. I made sure to explain myself and what I was told, and I think if you get a rep like Amy, or Greg you won't have any problems getting some sort of credits from Subaru directly. Dealers will differ from person to person, obviously.

Good luck!

Ordered 8/14/12 Impreza Premium Hatchback Manual Transmission, no options, from Spokane, estimated date of arrival sometime in November. No VIN, and very little concrete information from dealer or SOA. I've been in touch with my dealer, who has done the best they can, but SOA was not helpful, said they would call the dealer and then call me back? Never heard back, which is fine. After reading all the posts, I'm seriously thinking I won't see this car until sometime in December. It's is difficult to believe in this day and age that SOA can't be more specific on what exactly is going on with your order.

Lol I am in the same city as you. Did you order yours from Appleway Subaru? What color? I ordered the same thing with options and in MBP on 8/9/12. I have been told exactly what you have been told. Dealer said estimated November delivery time. I called SoA just like you as well and they called the dealer and didn't call me back either. I called them and they gave me no new info. I have no VIN and know about the same. SoA did tell me that the dealership is getting 6 2013s in November so if you did order from the same dealership hopefully 2 of the 6 are ours but it was sounding like they were CVTs . My rep said the first ones should start coming in November 10-14. If you hear anything else let me know and I will do the same.

What?? My dealer is getting a car almost the exact same as the one I ordered...
http://www.grandsubaru.com/new/Subar...b91a2df7e5.htm

Sadly, it's in DGM, so it can't be my car. This popularity contest with the colors and transmission configuration is BS. That car in the link above has all the packages I ordered in a 5MT tranny with some of the options I ordered... Why oh why couldn't Subaru have made mine first? I certainly ordered it before this one was ordered or made. I really don't see any excuses for why Subaru couldn't have made our vehicles for us who ordered in a more timely fashion.

I sure hope Max and rb64 get some info soon. They've been waiting for quite some time, and I know how frustrating it is...

If i get a vin or december eta then I will wait. If they say january I already located 3 cars about 350 miles away. I have been scanning ny,nj, and pa. After sandy leaves if SOA or dealership can't give me some firm info then I will probably jump on one of the cars I located. No DGm to be had but I like MBP and ice silver so gonna have to see how this works out, 4 months just won't cut it if they lump my september order into that category. Technically december is 4 months, january would be 5months um its practically winter gimmie my subie

I ordered from Spokane Subaru, not Appleway, and the color of the rig is Dark Metal Gray. I had ordered a 2012, same car, but it was so late getting here that I decided to wait for the 2013's. I hope this wasn't a mistake. Unfortunately, at least as far as I can tell, there isn't a similar car out there, features, AWD, gas mileage, and price considered. I have no allegiance to Subaru, and I do hope their competitors are paying attention and in the future will come out with a similar rig at a similar price. I'm not emotional about all this, but it is unacceptable for a company like Subaru to be unable to provide specific information in a timely manner about an order. Spokane Subaru has been extremely fair about my entire order situation.

I guess both of our dealers don't know much. Appleway has been nice to me as well. But just like you I can't seem to get any solid info. I'm not really interested in anything else so I don't have much of a choice but to wait.

*Edit* Called my dealer today and my salesman called his manager who then got in touch with there rep who is waiting on a answer from there contact and said that they should be getting more info sometime November 5th-10th and my VIN info should be a part of that. Lol, that sound like a long chain of people to talk to? I just want my VIN so I have a more definitive answer on yes it has been built and here is a educated and estimated shipping date. Rather than it should be in this month, we think, lol. Starting to sound like a December ship date Bleh. Other cars are starting to get more appealing, but I want my subie!! /rant lol

just posting this in this thread:
considering all the cars that sandy ate especially in the north east, I don't feel so bad about waiting though my 4/5 month wait will suck i'll still get the car I want at the price I want, prices are about to shoot up because supply is low and demand just took a swan dive off a cliff heading for outer space.

I just realized the demand is going to spike for anything with four wheels and an engine after Sandy, I really need to get my house refi done and then its off to the dealer. The nearest recommended dealer has an ice silver Sport Premium CVT in transit, but I'd prefer DGM.

I'm in the same boat as you! I'm in the process of refinancing my mortgage right now. Cut it down a few years from 30, and cut the interest down from 5.125% to 3.25%. I'm still gonna save money AND have less payments. It's a win-win. Hopefully I can get the mortgage done before my car comes in, but that shouldn't be too hard!

Not wanting to rub it in for those still waiting, but my wife and I picked up our two Impreza Sport Limited cars yesterday. One in Marine Blue Pearl and one in Venetian Red. Ordered the day the orders were opened up from Gresham Subaru outside Portland Oregon.

I'm jealous, but congrats! I think my dealer rep said mine should arrive in the Portland, OR port. Have fun driving them!

Don't worry. You're updating us. What helps is knowing the specifics of your order so that we can get a better feel for the 'average' and the extreme cases like Max and I.

Details such as date your order was placed initially, date you received a vin, date you received your car as well as color, trim, transmission, packages, and POSSIBLY options. From what I've heard though options don't make a huge difference though as I heard they're installed after being received at the port.

Max and I both ordered Marine Blue Pearl 5 speed manual transmission Impreza hatchbacks. SoA has had long delays with this specific combination of MBP and stick.

Order was placed the first day they were available, I believe that was 8/15. Both cars are identical other than color, and the only factory installed option that we ordered was the moonroof. One Marine Blue Pearl and one Venetian Red. All other options are port installed according to my dealer. Those were the splash guard/strake kit, rear bumper applique, all weather floor mats and the plastic tray for inside the rear hatch. Since they are the Sport Limited model CVT was the only choice as well as leather.

We never did receive a VIN and only received a VON when I asked about two weeks before they arrived. We got the call that they were here on October 27, but since our work schedules don't coinicide we waited until November 2 to go in and sign the paperwork and take delivery.

Hope that helps...

Hmm interesting stuff. I ordered mine same time 8/9 just in a 5MT same color though. I only live a state over too, so I'm not sure if they are just making the CVTs first or what but it sure seems like it. Hopefully this is a sign that mine is going to come in soon, that would be nice!

I ordered a 2013 Limited Sport 5 door in DGM with Navi/Moonroof option in early September. Current estimate of delivery is "Month of December". FWIW, I'm in the Seattle area.

There is a VON number but no VIN yet. Sucks to have to wait but I know it will be worth it in the end.

I ordered my 2013 Limited Sport in Ice Silver with only port installed options on Labor Day and was given a VON that day and just received a VIN last week. The dealer says late November (although they first said 6 to 8 weeks) and SOA says December.

5MT or CVT? My order was very similar, DGM, Nav/Moon roof, and it showed-up (unexpectedly) at my dealer in Marysville a couple of weeks ago. My order was placed with Subaru in mid August.

Limiteds are only available in CVT. Congrats on getting your order!

I made another sweep on cars.com and found ONE car almost exactly like the one I ordered. The only accessory not on the car was the rear spoiler. The bad thing is that it's all the way in California. I did find 4 MBP 5MT's Sport Premiums in Arizona though where my brother in law lives... Tempting as it is, I've waited all this time for my damn moonroof, I might as well wait a few more weeks. I'm seeing more and more cars similar to, or exactly like the one I ordered before these other cars were ordered or made. This still makes me wonder why Subaru does it they way they do it...

I would guesstimate the distributor networks that are setup in different state influence the lag time as well. I am getting my car in at prob the same time as you but I have the ny distributor to thank for that since they order a ton of vehicles ditto for dealership.
new england has its own distributor I am not certain if every northern state has some kind of distributor tie in but law of supply and demand is strangling your supply.
