+08 SPT Catbacks rare/discontinued?
After searching the FS topics and vendor classifieds, I'm getting the impression that not alot of people have the SPT catbacks on their +08's. Is there a reason for this?
I'm seeing tons of Invidia, Tsudo, TurboFX, and even Endless axlebacks, but for some reason, the SPT eludes me. Pretty sure it's not a performance issue and after reading throughout the forums, I think it was labeled too quiet. Have these been discontinued? Looked around some local Subaru stealerships and they don't seem to have any either. I'm currently looking for an exhaust on the quieter side, but one that still gives "dat boxer" sound during WOT. Thanks guys.

What model do you have/talking about?
They aren't discontinued and still readily available. 08+wrx 5 doors have two different styles. 08-10 single exit, 11+ have quad tip dual exit. All 08+ sti spt sedans and 5 doors should be the same through the years. My guess is the price, stainless steel quality, sound, and pipe diameter all come in to play here. For a near 1k msrp you can get a far better exhaust for your money. The only pros are warranty related for people that would be nervous about running non factory performance parts. And a pretty quiet but sporty sound in my opinion. I run one and love it. It fits my needs and power goals just fine and would recommend one to someone else. I'm referring to the 08+ WRX single tips (hatchback). I've been finding newer model quad tips for over $1k, but for my 08+/single tips, either no stock or... no stock. Even if someone carries them, I'm guessing the price will be somewhere around $700+. Trying to find one around the sub $400 range, so I guess SPT is out...
EDIT: ding ding ding. looks like they're in the $700+ range (which is funny because after doing some Googling, they were originally $300 when they were first brought to market. Now, a freaking +100% price hike? WTF Subaru... : https://www.flatironstuning.com/p-16...rx-5-door.aspx Last edited by noobsrus; 11-20-2012 at 09:04 AM. |

Much better exhausts out there than the SPT. Any specific reason you want the SPT over something else?

Now that I've moved on, I'm thinking about going a different route; maybe something in between OEM --- Invidia? Seems like SPT is a good route. I don't have an issue going back to the Invidia, but I just didn't want to splurge another $500+ on a new CBE. (Speaking of which, hopefully prices will drop with the incoming holiday season. Take note vendors!) I forgot how much I paid for mine a year ago, but I just remember it cost me a good chunk o' change. Hopefully prices are near the mid/low $400 range now. If not, I can wait. |

I run the Invidia Q300. It's very nice and not as loud as the N1.
Call Josh at IIR and tell him you are from NASIOC. He might be able to cut you a break on price vs the websites price |

Most people don't get them because they're too quiet for most tastes. It's always been a problem with SPT exhausts.

I have yet to hear anything I would call a "quiet" exhaust for newer hatches, unless you go with a single exit. Everything else seems to range from "really loud" (which I include the SPT in) to "stupid loud"

There is a vendor clearing out on the TurboXS exhaust for the 08-10 WRX right now. Not SPT, but an option ...
