Default Differences in 2.0L from 02-05?

I am wondering if their are any differences in the 2.0L for the 02 wrx to the 05 wrx? And if so can these differences be proved rather than just specualtion? Cause I have a 04 2.0L and in the future if I ever wanted to order a new 2.0 from the dealer ($2200).....what year to go with? Were any better than the others.

Thanks

Should be the same motor from 02-05. I would order a new one via your VIN just to be sure though

Dealer said, they dont sell long blocks...the short block was $2200 and to re0use the heads. I heard somewhere that the 04+ had more holes somewhere for better oiling capabilities in the higher rpm range than the 02-03 motors. IDK for certain though. My dealer said he can get me whatever year I wanted too

You could get a 2.5L STi shortblock for the same price and use the 2.0 heads, turbo,Intercooler etc and tune and have a good platform for future modding

I believe in 04 or 05 they put in a better crank that was more like the JDM motors with better/more oiling passages.

I don't think they even manufacture the old 02-03 style crank anymore.

All 2.0 turbo blocks supercede to a new part number, so they're all the same.

Also, I'd shop around different dealers for your block, 2200 is a rough matrix price (marked up a lot), list price is 1,991.95, and dealer cost is roughly 1,550.00. I'd shoot for somewhere between list and cost and if you're not a huge dick about it, most parts guys should be able to accommodate.

Are you calling me a dick? I called another local dealer and they told me $1991.95...but with tax its just gonne be over $2100
And correct....all 2.0L's are now the same part number.......
But tell me more about the crank?

Yep, from talking to 2 dealers....u can not specify what 2.0L you get......I dont know how this crank thing works out thou. I am a noob in the crank discussion. They also said the only way u can get a long block is......its a current 2.5L and it has to be approved from the rep and SOA. Subaru does NOT sell long blocks.

When people say "crank" are they referring to the crank shaft? And like this says......"cross drilled EJ205 04-05 crank shaft"

yes, crank is crankshaft, and I wouldn't worry about it much, especially if your just looking for stock replacement

Do a stroker kit. That's what I plan on when my 2.0l goes.
