Oh I know what it is, but if you read any reviews of the unit, it is crappy. The menus are terrible, the navi is worse than my 5 year old Garmin Nuvi (aside from more updated maps), and all the buttons (physical and on screen) are way too small. No voice command, HD radio is not active, etc.

For a car that's supposed to be minimalist, I'd have been happier with a HU that didn't try so hard to look better than it is. The on-screen buttons are a joke and the NAV is pretty useless. So much stuff around the screen that you can't see cross streets ahead of you. Sure, you can zoom out by pushing THREE BUTTONS but then you can't see the small streets. My 2010 STi had a much better system and I wasn't really that pleased with it either, but it was more user-friendly.

So far I like the BT audio (never used this before), but I wish it'd pull the tag info. Do any HUs do this or is that just a limitation of BT?

I'm going to have to look into that Pioneer 8400. I really liked the 4100 I had in my WRX.

Yeah it's an HTC andriod. I'm using the stock music app, but I think it comes with a couple. I'll see what happens, thanks for the info.

The song tags over bluetooth work fine on my iPhone. It now even reads text messages out loud to me, but can't reply.

Why not just put a amplifier and have connection for an Ipad mini in dash?

Can anyone tell me how to change the menus as they are software determined. I would just like mine to constantly display radio direct access channels. Annoying having to press a menu to select a station

It works fairly well an can produce a decent amount of volume. The system itself suffers from an overly boosted amount of midbass to compensate for the complete lack of sub bass. The imaging is overall nice and upfront, but a lacks focus, common for a system than it playing most of it's mids and high into the windshield. My biggest gripe is that tonal quality is poor, intstruments don't really sound like what they are supposed to be. I'm not sure if it has more to do with the processing of the unit, pre-set in car equalization, speaker quality or speaker placement. If I felt like the head unit could produce a clean enough un-equalized signal would consider building a system off of it. The NAV is acceptable, I think it's biggest lack is is its inability to re-route well. Some system will you to take a u-turn RIGHT NOW when you miss a turn, this system will just causally route you ten miles out of the way. A good system finds the middle ground.

FINALLY got my Pioneer AVH-P8400BH installed, but didn't think through the dash kit. I need one now.

The layout is terrible for driving and it is slow to connect my iPod, though the interface for the iPod is MUCH better than the current gen WRX/STI radio. The song information is much more full and transitions quicker between tracks.

I do not listen to the radio and we don't get Satellite Radio in Alaska, so none of that makes a difference to me.
OMG! I just realized it took me over a year to get this done! What a freakin' loser!

The iPod connection won't work in that it'll recognized it's plugged in from the back in either USB ports, but it won't play sound even though it'll show me what's playing.

Is it possible to have Sirius and not XM?

I know it's the same company, but they use different satellites and XM cuts out a lot more often.

My WRX is Sirius but our MDX is XM.

I think it might be software based. I have Sirius in my truck but "supposedly" you are able to merge XM and Sirius into one account as of Feb this year. It took them over 4 years to make that happen? The channels are really confusing me though. On Sirius I have all the NFL games but on XM i can't find them on the menu and had to manually enter the channel after looking it up online. If it took 4 years for accounts, maybe their channels are still screwed up?

I also tried to keep an open mind on the radio but I really hate it. I thought the pioneer system in 2006 was bad. Menus are crap, nothing intuitive..

It's time to research some aftermarket stuff. I guess the only concern (maybe?) is hoping the OEM sat radio antenna can plug in to whatever systems are out there.

I'm guessing there are threads out there on this, I hope. Time to search.

Most likely you'll use adapter harnesses. To retain my USB port in the dash I got an adapter for my new HU. Works like a charm and only cost a few bucks! I was offered an adapter harness for the GPS antenna, but since I don't plan on changing my unit to a GPS anyways I don't really care.

i'm getting REALLY tired of the damn push screen. around these ****ty jersey roads it really takes some concentration for me to hit the next button on the screen for music and sometimes its just not responsive.

the navi on thursday was just irritating the **** out of me, it kept recalculating, i thoought we had new maps? the roads i were on were NOT built this year but the navi had no idea i was even on a road

my issue i, this works GOOD ENOUGH, so i dont want to blow the extra 1k on something that still isn't going to be that much better, i just want to be able to change **** while i'm moving.

This ^

I usually have to try a few times to change tracks. I end up hitting a bump in the road and the bounce causes my finger to not hit the tiny button or hit it offset and it not change. Hell even with my iPhone if I'm in the general direction of a button it knows what I was after!!

I'd like to give the new Aha! version (2014 MY) a shot since I use a lot of Pandora, but I don't want to drop five notes on something like that.

I might sit tight and wait a couple years to see if a new HU comes out that would be compatible with our cars (an OEM extra-wide double DIN from another Toyota or Subaru) and is significantly better, then upgrade. I'm not a big fan of an aftermarket HU. I've added physical buttons to mine, but the nav is far inferior to my phone, so usually when I'm on a longer trip, I connect bluetooth then turn off the HU's screen. The main reason I haven't thought about replacing it with a base model Impreza HU is that I like my backup camera.

Would be nice to someday have them make a HU with a 7" screen that's at least 540P resolution, and put physical buttons around it. Maybe even a HDMI input.

has anyone ever considered swapping to the FRS head unit? it might be cheap to find them and they are pretty much a guaranteed fit. the auto would be much better too.

personally i still find all the extra technology pointless i just want a radio with an AUX jack.

Bluetooth is okay, the soundsystem is acceptable, the nav is kinda crappy. I don't use voice commands. It's better than what the FRS gets so can't complain too much.

Didn't care for the stereo at all. Replaced it with a DNX9990HD within a couple months of owning the car.

And NO, the car does NOT need steering wheel controls!

So I've been looking at the different devices, and also tried to look at the DNX9990HD. It doesn't look like its being stocked anymore. When does the industry typically release their yearly models?

I've never purchased car audio equipment at all.
