Default Need advice

I read and searched through a couple of similar situations and wasn't able to find a clear answer.

But i Just installed a new exhaust downpipe all the way back. It is catted, with an o2 sensor installed but it's throwing a cel. I figured it might just need to be tuned but not sure if that'll make the cel go off. I'm sure my o2 sensor is not out so can someone please let me know how to get rid of the cel.

Which trouble code is being thrown?

I'm assuming since you mentioned that it "might" need to be tuned, you haven't tuned for the DP.

I may be wrong, and if so others here will correct me, but only the 02-04 WRX does not need a tune for a downpipe. Your 06 WRX requires a tune for a downpipe.

I would get that tuned for asap, and take it very very easy on the throttle. No boosting for you.

Other than that, and not knowing which trouble code is being thrown, we can only infer what the issue could be.

02-03 don't need tunes is what I've been told.

OP- Highly recommended that you get a tune asap, but if you need to drive definitely stay out of boost.

02-03 don't inherently NEED a tune. You don need to "drive safe". 02-03 run pig rich from factory

But, yes, you should get a tune to eliminate the check engine light

Putting a downpipe and not tuning on ANY WRX/STI/LEGACY is bad. (Except 02-03's which you do not have) This is why you should research and THEN buy. Even if you "drive safe" and "stay out of boost" you are risking your entire motor.

Get a tune asap. And if you have a trouble code next time, post the actual code so we can help.

A week of crossing your fingers

For future if you plan on changing something that requires a tune, you should try to do it in quick succession

The stupid EJ255/257 motor is a damn grenade with a downpipe and no tune. I don't buy this "I promise to stay out of boost" thing everyone claims ever since I rode with some local guy who told me he was staying out of boost and he was 75% throttle every time he left a light. He clearly didn't understand/know what boost was.
