Junk the stock stuff and get a $200 CD/Radio. The stock CD player for the RS costs to much for the purpose it serves. Plus it will not be nearly as good as going out and getting something better and cheaper.

Personally I spent 250 bucks and upgarded to a Sony XPlod and it works well. I am not a person that is into heavy spending on sound except if my car goes faster.

Yeah, that's about right.

Come to an install fest -- we'll help you put it in, it'll probably take less than 30 minutes.

Can't vouch for the sound quality as I don't have one, but at least your dashboard illumination will match!

I got mine for 60 bucks, you can't really beat that, I installed it fine, but the lights for the buttons dont't work, I did somthing wrong. But yea there is like one wire that connects the cd player to the stock tape/radio.

San Mateo-

I recommend a Pioneer DEH-p3300.

Best bang for the buck, it really brings the life out of your speakers.

dont pay more than $150 for this, it sells for 199 at crutchfield.com

good luck

I installed a stock subaru cd player, hooked it up with the stock Clarion radio using the barrel type connector, the cd works but as mentioned before the lights on the buttons dont, the display does. There seems to be an extra harness that needs to be connected to the car. A four prong connector located on the right back of the cd player. Does anyone know which wires go where so I can splice them into the main harness? I know Subarus have + and - illumination wires but which is which and why four?

Do you realize you're responding to a 3 year old thread?

search back in the car audio forum, or ask the question there, they will probably be more help. Most of the people from this thread don't post here anymore.
