You know what they say--"No point putting off until tomorrow what you can do today."

I don't know who "they" are, exactly, but that's what they say.

I think I may consider doing this upgrade now. Has anyone consider using relays with H11 halogen bulbs? After reading this article it seems wise:

well here is the thing. this is suppose to be a simple plug and play kit. you will gain a massive advantage over stock. BUT!!! if you want the most out of this upgrade and want to pour as much money into this project to get it, then I would just go ahead and buy the hell 500 black series. im just saying.

no honestly, a relay will truly give you a couple or a few more hundred lumens. i just didn't feel like going through all the troubles and time of actually running all the wires and making proper connections for the extra 200-300 lumens. I mean that is alot!! but a 24 watt bulb will produce about 300-600 lumens, the 55w H11 will put out about 1100-1400 lumen. I am satisfied that i get more than twice the output. but if you really really what some bright ass fog lights. do the H11 to H9 conversion and run relays, you will be around the 2000 lumens range!!!!!!!!! but i would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend AGAINST that on STOCK WIRING!!!! because the H9 bulbs are 65 watt bulbs and that is far reaching the limit of wiring and fuses. = fire or a hot mess

The factory lighting setup in these is quite shabby. H11's for lows.. Really?! I had those for fogs on my last car.

Yes, 55w is a low beam bulb, 65w is a high beam. So h11 is the correct bulb for a low beam

Since I only run mine when conditions require their use, I won't be doing relays. They are powered by a relay from the factory, so I would be more concerned about wire gauge, I haven't tackled this yet so I'm not sure what size the stock wiring is.

I did the relay rewire on my old car for the headlights and it is impressive, I might do it for this one when the warranty is up.

Hmmm, I think the lighting coming from the factory headlights is quite good. Even my 80-year-old mom with bad eyesight, when she rode in my car, commented on how good the headlights are.

ans2k,

have you tried the independant mod yet? looking at the foglight instructions from subaru it looks like the relay on this car is behind the glove box?

I'm also waiting for someone to chime in about the independent fog mod. This is something I'd really like to do but have no clue about where to start. I believe Dimadozen was going to attempt this mod as well.

Looks great. I wonder how these hold up to rocks on the road I'm tired of replacing them.

I have a set of factory ones for sale if you want. Pm me and we can discuss price.

Highly recommend headlight armor as a protector, after 17k miles they still look perfect. I took it off though because I was curious as to how well it protected.

I got my fog lights installed. I just cut off the factory connector and soldered on my h11 plugs. They are OK, just marginally brighter than stock. To get a beam pattern that looked like ansk2's I was lighting up trees 5ft above my eye level. I think they will look better when I get my new overlays on them

and once i can get inside the hanger again I plan to adjust the beam pattern because outside in the snow it is a little difficult to set the cutoff correctly, lol
