Has anyone tried this mod with the 2015 WRX?
The stock lights on the 2015 WRX are considerably better than the stock lights were on my 2004 WRX. I would still love to have HIDs.

It will work on any car accepting H9s - and in this case it's ~500 more raw lumens of light. You can't beat physics
As a side note, one has to remember when considering bulb upgrades is that at the, end it is (pretty much) only lumens that count. Allt he hypergigawhite 100W=10W, often seen in advertising, POS bulbs is total bovine excrement. If you can't find the output in lumens, don't buy. As for LEDs - they're still far from matching the output of fully blown halogen headlamp bulb filaments (asides from dedicated LED lamps which often use an array of LEDs). Not to mention that since many LEDs are used on one "bulb", the beam pattern becomes completely coo coo, if you do a direct replacement. |

Oh thank goodness for Google I found this...just bought stock Philips H9 on Amazon, going to make this a WEEKEND PROJECT
No seriously, my dash cam would also love the much needed light output. Until I can afford a $500+ retrofit project this will do... |

Do you or someone know other plug & play HID projector other than the Mini D2S that TRS has that won't require cutting? I know they're okay but was hoping to fit something else... |

Here's the result! First night I realized that the metal tab on the H9 needed to be shaved off (which I didn't realize until today). Easy 30 second tweak and took the photos. I did meter the lighting to the stock H11, ISO800 0.3" f5.6 custom white balance to somewhat match the actual light output color and took the second shot with the H9. No post processing adjustments so it's fairly accurate.
Right away I noticed a difference in the driveway I was happy Philips H11 http://i.imgur.com/fBszJ6r.jpg Philips H9 http://i.imgur.com/yiLAGaf.jpg |

Nice pictures, did you leave the fogs on in the first pic or is there that much difference in the beam between the two bulbs? I am talking about all the foreground light in the first pic.

If not for that it would be the best pic I have seen of the comparison between the tow different bulbs and it is exactly what I see in my experience. At a quick glance other people might argue that the H9 isn't that much better because the fog lights skew the results. I've been running H9 only for years now. Great conversion. I even bought an adapter so the next time one burns out, I do not have to file anything down. I filed down the part in the adapter instead. |

H11 to H9 conversion. DIY with temps
The fogs on are a bit confusing at first but if you ignore the foreground you can still clearly see the difference where the low beam actually is, quite a bit further than where the fogs are. You could probably trim the two pics to remove the foreground, only keep the upper part of each pic and it would be even clearer.

Yeah you can definitely ignore the fogs in the one pic..
It just throws off the results a little. I think the difference would be even more dramatic w/o the fogs in the one pic.. |

Actually H11 was taken the night before until I realized why the H9 didn't fit properly but did record the setting for the H9 shot.
I can try to do an overhead shot from middle of the car next time. There's an old empty lot not far from me so I'll probably shoot there. That should give people better idea on the spread as well. |

Quick question; how old were the H11's?

That location you shot in already is really good though. You can compare a lot of the things off to the side like the pole, and grass, the concrete curb thing sticking up, even the tar stips on the road. Would be hard to beat that. It is "real world" use too. |

Good question; it was in there since I bought the car. Some say it's 500 and up to 700 lumens brighter with the H9. It's VERY noticeable though either way. Haven't been flashed by any oncoming cars. YET

On a 2014 Wrx if I want to make the daytime running lights white light do I replace the 9005 high beam light for that?

Does anyone know if the added 10w over stock (55w vs H9's 65w) will cause issues over time with the LIN Battery Sensor in the new 15' model year subarus? It's the reason why I ripped out my HIDs today.

No issues with mine and the H9 conversion is one of the first things I did when I got the car back in May.

They're either Philips or Hellas, I had them lying around as spares from the GTO.

OSRAM H9 bulbs are cheap and in-stock at Auto-Zone most of the time.
