97 leg. gt engine conversion from 2.5-2.2
Curious if anyone has replaced a shortblock on a 2.5 with a 2.2? I don't mind if I lose a little performance. My questions are, what head gasket would I use, would the ecu mapping work, would the valves hit the pistons, would I get a check eng light. I work at an independent subaru shop so we have pleny of 2.2 engines. I don't like the fuel milage of this car. I'm hoping by putting in the smaller block the fuel milage might improve. Also, it seems like most 2.5's that I work on knock. My knocks and has 180k. If I'm going to fix the piston knock(or slap whatever you want to call it) then I should do rod and main bearings as well. It would be much easier for me to replace with a 2.2 if its just a drop in. Sorry for the story and thanks for any help.
