I was doing 55KPH in a local traffic zone (single lane no lines and 50KPH limit.) There was cars coming the other way, and this young lady (about 18) came up on my tail so quick that she had to slam the brakes. She was riding my tail so I of course slowed down to about 40KPH. Everytime that she looked for an opening to overtake another car would com up the other way. When I had to turn off left I stayed right in the center of my lane and slowed down to like 10 to take the turn. Normally I would move over to the left when doing this to let others pass, but some one had to slow this lady down. Its a local traffic zone for a reason. Kids could be running out on the street.

I don't like that game, but I've been guilty of it nonetheless. The best was when a dude in an older 911 (late 70's, early 80's) had been tail gating me in rush hour traffic for a couple of miles. I was getting sick of it, and was letting the space cushion in front of me increase until I had about 6 seconds in front of me. The Porsche whips around to the right and I downshifted to 3rd to block his pass. I was in a stock Civic at the time and knew I had no chance, but I did it anyway just for kicks. As one would expect, the 911 was passing me easily despite the power of VTEC. His back bumper was about even with my front when all of a sudden smoke started pouring out the back of his vehicle and I passed him like he was standing still!

I hate it when I am obviously driving with the flow of traffic and people decide to park on my bumper. It's completely unsafe.
More than likely I'm watching you and will pull over when it's reasonable for me to do so. If I've spaced out and haven't pulled over when it's reasonable for me to do so, honk or flash your lights from a REASONABLE DISTANCE. That's not hard. Blocking is fun, but could be unsafe. How about an LED sign that says "Why are you tailgating?"...switch it on when needed. Or even better, but far more unsafe: A 500,000 candlepower spotlight aimed to hit a tailgater in the eyes, linked to a radar system. If they're closer than 0.5 carlength per 10 mph, the spotlight goes on. Back off and the light turns off. Should be a quick learning curve... |

once i had a honda prelude riding my bumper for about 3 miles on a two lane back road and everytime he tried to pass me i sped up ...then i spotted a state cop up the road and quick stomped on the brakes and he was soo pissed that i almost wrecked him he crossed the solid yellow goin about 110mph right past the cop ...it was great! ,anyway by the time i reached where the cop had pulled him over i was goin below the 35mph speed limit and i just a blipped the throttle and smiled at him..it was great what a jerk..if you are gonna speed...be aware of your surroundings!

Heh... speeding up when someone tries to pass on a 2 lane road is extra fun because it can get someone killed. Now that's humor

if you're in the left lane, playing block the tailgater is retarded.
however, people who think it's their god-given right to endanger lives in the right lane get blocked like the biznotches they are. i was on i-75 saturday afternoon in the middle of a torrential downpour, going 80 in the right lane, and some retard in an explorer is riding inches off my bumper, when there are 3 other lanes that she can use. just drop it down a gear...thanks to detroit shoving slushboxes down consumers' throats, most people have no idea that a car can slow down without the brake lights coming on. |

If there's a looooong line of cars all going 80 mph as far as the eye can see, as it normally is on my I-495 commute, you can't expect the person in front to get out of the way - very few people talegate on this road, and usually leave a safe amount of space. However, if there are like 3-5 cars in front of me, behind somebody going the same speed as the cars in the slow lane, with open road ahead, that ticks me off. I will flash my lights at the guy in front of me - if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. For some reason, from what I've seen people in NH and NJ all want to drive 70 mph in the fast lane during rush hour. 80% of the traffic on a three lane road will be in the fast lane bumper to bumper as far as the eye can see, while people in the other two lanes are going 65, only a hair slower, with tons of space. These nj and nh fast lane people are all morons. 50% of them should be in the middle lane going 70, while the other 50% should make sure that the other people get to middle lane, so they can to 80 in the fast lane. DUH! On top of that, these fast lane people are always hitting their brakes and jambing up traffic. When I have to drive in situations like that, I am usually moving back and forth between the two slower lanes, passing all the suckers in the fast lane. Kevin |

OTOH, I don't know what you SHOULD do. The person in front is causing a jam, which can be dangerous. I want to say just let the guys directly behind the slow car deal with it, but it would be nice if there was a more active way. In all the years Americans have been driving, why don't we have ways of communicating with eachother while driving? Should we all be on CB's, like truckers? |

if someone is on my butt and I'm forced to do the speed limit because of heavy volumn that's one thing.
But if I'm doing 80 in a 65 (NJ Parkway anyone?) and some jerk comes FLYING up my rear, ITS ON! |

my philosophy is if you're going to drive like an arsehole.....you'd better do it well enough to pull off the maneuver you are trying.....
With that said.....the other day driving the two lane transition from the 5 north to the 118 west. After you exit onto the 118, there is the beginning of a new fast lane to the left (towards the center divider)....so I roll over into it and am getting back up to freeway speed when I notice a Camaro who moved into the same lane, but much earlier than he should have (kicking up dust and plastic)....so he tries to whip around me on the right which I'm going to have none of......so get this....to my right I am pulling up on two vehicles, parallel, in the 3 and 2 lanes.....this dude splits the difference between them (as in his license plate was centered over the white striped line)....he made a 5th lane there..... After that, I was like "you win dude..." |

We were driving side by side with the windows down talking when someone came up real fast and had to hit the brakes pretty hard. My buddy was like "Oh man, hold on I'm gonna get this guy" and he reaches down. I move up as far as I can and then BAM my car lights up and I hear tires squeal. The guy was fine, braked in a straight line, but my buddy agreed to take it off, justice was sweet, but totally risky. Won't be doing something like that again. |

yup, just got back from 3 week vacation to there in August....Also got much smaller cars there too.....not a big ole honkin' Camaro. I saw one car that can park nose into the curb and still be legal...not blocking any lanes or anything...

Tailgators make me want to mount a windshield washer nozzle just above my rear license plate. Oh, and fill the reservoir with coke, or some other kind of soda or corrosive liquid (I've even debated HCl if I didn't think I'd get my butt thrown in jail or something). Then, when they decide to tailgate me, just politely turn this nozzle on and spray the front of their car with soda. Should leave a nice sticky, and non-paint friendly mess on their car.
Granted this stunt would probably be best used at night, but who knows. Am I going too overboard or should I head to the junkyard to pick up a fluid reservoir, all the appropriate tubing and nozzle? And I too enjoy playing those games with people. Especially the ones who try to pass on the right of a 2 lane road, hoping to get a few car lenghts ahead of where they were. Hello? We're already doing 80? How much faster do you want to go in your '92 Sable? |

Yeah its an interesting game to play I guess. All depends how much of an arse the person is being really.
I did that to a silver BMW one night and the guy driving pulled up next to me and danged what to appeared to be a 9MM from his pointy finger. I went home right after that.....kind of freaky. What I usually do it let them past, you know your just going to be stuck at a light together anyways, thats when I wave and give a nod with a stupid smirk on my face. Thats the one that eats them up. 70? In the rain? while eating food? thats pretty bad man. Do one or the other. Oh by the way......what would you have done if your cell rang? Joe |

i thought guns were legal? as long as you have the ammo and the gun separated (gun in trunk/ammo in glove box or vice versa) then its legal. unless you can show me proof of otherwise |

I just let the morons tailgate me. If they hit their high beams it does not matter to me since i have the auto dimming mirror and tinted windows.
Down here in TX people are horrible for sitting on your ass when you are driving. Most of the time i will just pull over into the other lane and let them pass but other times if they are being a complete and utter idoit (like you see them weaving in and out of traffic from a mile away behind you using no signals or brains) i will speed up a bit and match the speed of a Semi or other vehicle if it is nearby. |
