Quick question
May be a stupid question and I've done some reading but can't find anything, I just ordered an invidia 3in DP, is it necessary or just a complete waste of money and time, to header wrap the down pipe. I don't half ass any work I do and I'm really thorough so I will be getting new gaskets a new 02 sensor(stock one is at 141k now, figure it could use a replacing) and use anti seize on the sensor threads. Any tips or info would be helpful thanks, haters comments save your breath please

Just wrapped my down pipe tonight. I did turbo down, had my brother hold it tight as I wrapped it around the under side. I used 5 *not necessary* metal zip ties to hold it tight and on all the way down the wrap to the bottom of my firewall

I heard its "better" to wrap it from bottom up, to have a "shingle" effect if water gets down in that area, so the water just runs down and off instead of in between the wrap..

The best thing you can do is use the LR type wrap (i.e. DEI Ti wrap) and forget that old crap header wrap. Yes on the new O2 sensor. Yes on the anti-seize on the threads. Just do not get anti-seize near the sensor's business end, it will affect it's accuracy and lifespan. Also notch the RHS manifold heat shield while you're in there, only takes quick snips or grind. Helps if you ever have to remove them again, no need to remove the O2 sensor first. I usually copper spray the turbine gasket for safe measure but it is not required. You could also modify your OEM DP heat shield and reattach it over your Invidia...more heat control and some elusiveness. Good luck, tune the ECM for the DP, and enjoy Last edited by JarHarms; 01-06-2013 at 09:34 PM. |

Ya I know about not getting it on the o2 sensor itself except threads, I have an associates degree in automotive so general automotive stuff I'm pretty squared away on, just new to the turbo world. I also have a Cobb AP that's gonna be here tomorrow so that will be happening

Alright, another thing, as far as cat back goes, maybe it's just me but I'm huge against getting a "fart can" type axle back, I absolutely hate the look of them, so I've been looking for a decent (muffler, dual tip, or single non "fart can" type tip) if I absolutely can't find anything. Ill settle, but for some reason I despise those big ugly tips, only thing I can find that I like is the borla hush axle back but I don't want to spend $500 plus simply bc it's not a fart can :/

Get the borla. You'll be glad you did. I've been running mine for 8 years, still looks and sounds great. I also run a used sti up pipe for what it's worth. Great figment and already has heat shielding.

I just can't justify spending $650 for just a cbe... That's really steep, but I don't really want to run a 3in catless dp into the stock wrx catback haha

Cat-Back - The cost directly affects the fitment. On the cheap you can try one of the lower cost cbe's but understand that it "might" have a higher chance of fitment compromise. I have seen a pretty good lower-cost cbe on a friend's car...I'll try to find out what it was and update my post. **Speed Tech and I think he said it was around $300.** If you are willing to spend some cash, look at something like the Borla. The Borla Hush is a fine choice but you will have to buy the 3" adapter for your DP (or make it) which adds to the cost (~$50). The Borla also uses mild steel flanges and steel hanger clips which (in our area) will eventually rust, I've been running one since 2006. HERE If it was me, I'd pay a bit more for a MadDad Whisper, DONE. Last edited by JarHarms; 01-08-2013 at 08:47 AM. |

I am by no means tired of the wagon I think they look 10x better then wrx sedans, ill look into those exhausts when I get off work, I'm not a cheap person by any means but $650 is just ridiculous for a cbe, I won't need any 3in adaptor for any exhaust cause I'm gonna be putting on an invidia v3 dp, thank you guys for the help $300 range is a good price and I would pay that for sure for a good cbe
