BG/BK/BD front sway diameter
yeah, so i've been searching for like 3 days now on like three different forums, and can't find the info i'm needing. so, does anyone know what the front sway bar diameters are for:
'95-'99 Legacy L '97-'99 Legacy GT '97-'99 Legacy Outback '97-'99 Legacy Outback Limited (if different from normal Outback) the reason i ask is that i upgraded to the 18mm Outback rear sway a few days ago, and now i'm searching for the ideal front counterpart. i read somewhere that the GT front sway bar might be a bit thicker than the stock one on my L, but i can't confirm that. the fact that the GT has a smaller rear sway than the Outback also has me really confused. so anyway, if anyone knows the answers, or can point me to where i can find them, i would be most grateful!

I know for a fact that the GT is 20mm. Mine is a MY97, and I measured it with calipers. I also ordered some whiteline bushings for a 20mm bar, and they were a perfect fit!

whenever i try to measure sway bar diameter i use wrenches......18,20,21 whatever. the outback and GT IIRC have a 18mm rear sway, but you can always get the whiteline adj. rear sway..goes up to 21 or 22 mm. i think its 18,20,22 adjustable. i know my stock rear sway was 15mm!!!!

The GT doesn't have a 18mm sway in the rear. I think it's more like 16mm.

I didn't think the front bar was that thick, but I suppose it was possible... |

Well, most Subaru owners don't want oversteer...understeer is much less dangerous for a driver who doesn't know what they're doing. It's much harder to induce oversteer in a Civic.

OKAY, may have finally found the answer.
according to prostreetonline, OEM bushings for the '95 Legacy L are for a 19mm bar: http://www.prostreetonline.com/oem/w...ay+Bar+Bushing bushings for the '98 Outback are for a 20mm bar: http://www.prostreetonline.com/oem/w...ay+Bar+Bushing and they don't list the size for a '98 GT, but we already know that's a 20 mm. now the question is, is it worth paying another $50 just to get a 1mm thicker front sway bar? |

what i'm looking for is if anyone has any concrete numbers on the spring rates (or torsion rates as it might be) between the 19mm L bar and the 20 mm GT/Outback bar. 1 mm might not seem like much, but it actually could make a significant difference depending upon the design of the bars themselves.

keep in mind though, that i am running on '04 STi springs and shocks, and have been desperately in need of an alignment for months now! i think i am going to get that outback FSB just to see how it feels, see if maybe it'll make any discernable difference. after that, the next mod will be poly bushings all around, then i should notice a real difference. |

My wife never noticed when I put on the 22mm bars. I drive it in the snow like that too. No problem. |

After installing my Outback RSB my friend said it was the most fun he had had in a car in a long time. Reason was, was that after it had rained, I could powerslide through intersection turns like crazy. You get alot quicker response and definately go into oversteer more readily.
