saw this thread, looked on cl for a svx, found a '97 in awesome shape and almost bought it haha. The power of suggestion is amazing even when these cars come with a slough of quirks and issues.

BTW if anybody wants one look on Portland cl. The '97 can be had for $4500

Sorry for hijacking just thought some SVX fans might be looking in here.

If you can find a '97 in decent shape, buy it. These cars WILL be worth money in a few years. I know of one fellow who recently sold his for close to $20k. Sure, still not original price, but heading back that way I would say.

They will never be worth money actually sad to say. Unless there are zero miles on the car and it's perfect you can't get much for them. The problem is there's no market aside from a few diehard fans. People with L's and RS's keep finding them for $500, ripping the motor and wiring out, merging the harness and making 3.3RS's... Then scrapping the shell. :'( There's a 92/93' in a local yard and it makes me sad... I want to at least save some parts off it.

Haha yeah I don't think it would be much of an investment. If I invest in cars it will be the classics. Speaking of 3.3 swaps.....I want to do one someday w/boost.

Hope to see this all come together over time. Just went through the entire thread.

Ok guys - finally an update.

The blue car will be getting a new motor soon as the old stock one is old and tired. Now, since I don't exactly get to work on my own car each day that means the blue car will be down for a bit once I pull the motor. Despite doing the shortblock ahead of time and such it will be a bit before I can get it back on the road.

Now, since you guys like for me to ship your parts I do need SOMETHING to get me to the shop in the morning.

Thus I started working on the white svx (FINALLY) after it's been sitting out back for more than 2 years.

Anyway, after last night and tonight I have the tranny from the 95 svx in it, driveshaft in, throttlebody, intake and the like back on.

I've done the oil and rear diff.

Need to fill the front diff, and the trans, the coolant, and change the brake fluid.

I also need to put the exhaust back on.

From there I will daily drive it while I work on the blue car.

Once the blue car is done the wife's outback comes in for some love. I need to get the front bumper repainted, and fix the sunroofs. while I do that she'll drive the white svx.

After that we'll likely sell the outback and replace it with something like the twin turbo flex.

once that is done I'll bring in the SVX and change the bushings, put the bigger rear bar on it, and go from there.

I am also going to see about doing something with the dampers. I know koni doesn't make them any more, but I might be able to make something work as we know the guys there pretty well.

If that doesn't work then I'll need to figure out something (maybe see if I can convert some AST coilovers).

as a side note the front BRZ dampers LOOK like they may actually bolt in, but I have yet to confirm.

There's actually two custom coilover options now- long thread, quite a saga with the sets from Cedric, but all is in order now.

I have a set of Fortune Auto 500's on mine.
For coil-overs you can use a set for an 05-07 STi, with a few modifications...

On the front, the coil over goes right onto the knuckle, but you'll have to elongate the bottom hole a little. Then you either have to drill 2 new holes in the shock tower due to the spacing difference, or you can press the 2 rear studs out of the camber plates, redrill in the stock SVX location, then press them back in. I opted for redrilling the tower on mine, no issues yet.

The back is a little more labor intensive. You only have to redrill 1 hole in the tower, but you have to grind down the knuckle mounting area thinner (takes a while depending on what you use). IIRC I had to take off 1/4"

As far as a BBK, I'm using 05-07 STi Brembo's. I haven't got the fronts done yet, but the caliper bolts directly up to the SVX knuckle, BUT it's out farther so you'll need to find a bigger rotor than the STi. I believe an Evo X rotor will work, but haven't torn mine apart yet to confirm this. And you'll also need at least 18's to clear the calipers.

The rear is a straight swap out with the backing plate and all right onto the SVX knuckle.

If the STI Brembo calipers fit, then it goes to say any stock location STI BBK (of the same vintage) will work as well, given similar modifications.

Car is together, registered, plated and insured.

Now to take it for a spin. I have a small hitch in the steering, and a purge helped. we'll see, and if not then I'll take a look at what's going on.

If I remember correctly it's not the bolt spacing, but the diameter AND backset. A good way to do it would be to get rotor rings of the right size, and then have hats made that gives you the correct backset.

The rear upright/back plate is the same as a v5 sti-ra which has a 190mm parking brake and 290mm solid rotors. The weird thing is that instead of using a taller bracket like the "H6" brakes, the bracket is the same and the backing plate moves the mounting points farther out. So you'd need to change the backing plate, or if you got some 1st gen legacy turbo brakes you could use a 290x18mm rotor.

For the shortblock I had Ross Racing make some SVX pistons a couple years ago. They should be able to do another set pretty easily.

Also, I think you can use SVX rear axles to do a 5x114 hub swap into a wrx while keeping the r160.

So if the rear upright is the same then a clevis for a V5 strut should fit right?

Do you happen to have any info about a rear differential bushing that will fit the SVX. I have recently fitted a 6MT and every now and then get the clunk. I can't really take mine down right now to try to get the OEM bushing out, but they are a PITA to get out. Especially since the differential mount is part of the entire rear subframe.

Apparently not. The hub/backplate/brakes are v5 sti but I guess the strut mounting is a little different. Wonder if you could just put in an sti rear upright.

Plus a v5 rear strut would just be the same as everything else.

that's where i was going with that.

I know you can put an STI bearing and hub into a WRX upright so I'm thinking -

Used rear upright
new STI hub and bearing

Not sure where that leaves the handbrake though. If the svx backing plate will bolt to a wrx upright then we can stick with the svx handbrake.

Pretty sure the STI bearing housing is bigger in diameter. And I think the svx has a 190mm parking brake so you should still be able to use it.

I know the sti bearing and hub will fit in the wrx upright as we did it for the race car so that would be good there.
