There are a couple good things on the wiki too: http://www.romraider.com/RomRaider/Articles It couldn't hurt to get some book, too. There are a few listed on the wiki. And lurk in the Tuning Discussion subforum, read logs, ask questions about what other people see in logs, learn to predict what other people are going to say about logs, etc. And get EcuFlash and open some different ROMs and read the table descriptions. If you have questions, ask them. |

i have apv2. local tuners will not provide unlocked maps..
i assumed i would have to get a tune but anyway.. 2003 WRX stock 2.0. replaced uppipe, installed cobb turbo back, evo III 16g, id1000 injectors, walbro 255 pump, turboXS topmount, grimmspeed EBCS. got access tuner race from cobb, installed wideband tuned for pump 93 and e85. i assumed i would not be able to do this. i was wrong.. thing is you gotta read everything you can here and at rom raider. even though i went cobb, romraider has tons of good info. i bought a tactrix 2.0 cable and use romraider for some logging and monitoring. once you read up you gotta go slow and pay attention to your AFR and slowly work you way up. the tune i ended up with i am pleased. i top a 20psi and boost comes in around 3000 and maxes at 3500 in top 3rd gear. im at a boundary though. i want to go hybrid with a better flowing heads. to do that i have to upgrade my tranny and then build out my motor and then tuning gets interesting with half-mafing or using a standalone. |

Math, at least introductory calculus. Chemistry and physics, at least the 100-level stuff. Some programming classes will help you understand what's going on inside the ECU. Logic classes might be in the philosophy or math department, consider both. Economics, micro, macro, balance sheets, amortization, stuff you'll want to understand if you want to run a business or work at a small one (same thing really). |

LOTS and LOTS of chemistry and physics.
Calibration, at least for an OEM, is 99.9% exhaust emissions and the rest is performance. Performance as in when does the a/c compressor come on and turn off, driveability, etc. 0-60 type performance is pretty unimportant to the OEMs unless you happen to be working on a performance model. Very tedious and boring actually. |
