Default ECU Help with Unnecessary Wiring

Not really sure if this is where i should post, but here it goes.

Im gutting my car and trying to remove all the unnecessary wiring.

I was wondering if anyone had any tips on which wires i could remove without taking away any of the unnecessary wiring.

Figured shops with time attack cars would be the most help which is why i posted here.

My car is a 2002 WRX.

Thanks
Ron

Not positive, but maybe you should go over to IWSTI and ask anorexicsti. His car weighs 26XX with full interior, im sure anything not needed was removed.

Get yourself the wiring diagrams from the factory service manual. Definitely don't cut any wires without looking at that first, especially wires that go to the ecu.

Dunk did this. At best, you're going to knock no more than 20 lbs out of the car though. I question whether it's worth the effort. I have a WRX harness sitting in a box. I've carted it around. No more than 40lbs for the whole thing including all the little control boxes for DRL, Power locks and the like. The hassle factor is high and the chance of cutting the wrong wire is very high because subaru uses the same color codes for multiple circuits.

but 10 little 20 lb things that may not seem like they're worth the effort add up to 200 lbs.

i have been questioning cutting doors, cutting wires, taking out the dash, cutting trunk supports.... i finally said F*it im going all the way.

sheet metal dash and sheet metal door cards and 2 CF seats.

Go through the wiring diagrams and highlight what wires you need to keep and those you don't. Go through each connector and de-pin everything. Throw away what wires you want gone and wrap and shrink the wires you want to keep in the harness. Then re pin all the wires back into the connectors. If you are looking for a list of wires to cut from us - you won't find it. Everyone's list of things they need in their race car is different. The rally guys need horns, windows, blinkers. The TA guys need none of that crap - not even headlights.

Someone up there said they have a harness in a box that it ~40lbs... I ripped a complete harness with all junction boxes out of a wrx a few years ago and it was not that light. I could barely carry it it was so awkward and heavy. I would say 55lbs+ for sure. If you want to take it to the next level, go for a PDM and eliminate the fuses and relays. But judging from the question you asked in your first post, you might not be ready for that type of system.
