Your thread title is dumb and grammatically incorrect. There's no reason for this subject to be its own thread. It could've gone in AKIC OT...

Verizon is already building there main office. It is next to the main ACS location on Old Seward between Tudor and 36th.

ACS will probably do just fine. They still have the Best coverage in the state and there prices are cheaper then Verizon currently anyways.

Negative, Unless you are talking about mobile cards. Verizon is only bringing there mobile service up for the time being. They are using ACS fiber anyways, which is why there manin infrastructure is going right next to ACS.

I hung out alone in OT yesterday felt like I needed to spice up the lives of others that don't frequent my holy land.

Currently this is true. Reason VZW is coming up here is because they are having to pay ACS because there users are on the ACS towers. So maybe they will lease towers from ACS or they will just put up there own towers. ACS is in the process of putting up 4G towers, it was postponed due to the sudden release of the iPhones. 4G should be available through ACS by the end of May or Mid June.

Eh, hit or miss. Not a big fan of Verizon or CDMA technology to begin with, plus, my guess is the towers in Alaska will not be LTE and probably at the BEST, HSPA/HSPA+. Realistically, I see them only supporting EVDO in Alaska until they find out what the market looks like here for them. I doubt gain for them here seeing as only GSM is supported in rural markets, there's no CDMA networks out in rural Alaska ( which is where most of the state's wireless demand is ). The problem I see Verizon running into is they operate from 800 and 1900MHZ which in urban cities, GCI uses that band...

I work in the telecommunications industry. I can assure you as of right now Verizon is setting in motion to install up to 200 towers in AK (my company is looking at bidding). For the immediate future they will continue to use ACS' towers, but they will eventually have their own infrastructure. The rumor mill within the industry is also buzzing that Verizon is looking into running their own sub-sea fiber optics cables up the southeast parallel with ACS'. If this happens, then expect true competition with GCI for home services.

Currently, I wouldn't imagine GCI is at threat ( of course, I highlight currently ) their major competitor really is AT&T, as long as services are still run through rural Alaska and along with the TERRA project, I'd be surprised if Verizon makes TOO much of dent ( not saying they won't ) If anything, ACS might topple from this ( seeing as their ownly selling point is they FINALLY provided consumer internet speeds above 3mbps, which, isn't unlimited ( which all the consumer's who have no clue how to read fine print assume )) since most are going to take Verizon over ACS for their home service. It'll be interesting to see if they have brackets or tiers setup for pricing and speeds.

Bring it! This state needs some more competition. Feel Alaska is in for a change with the new competition.

Why not just get an ACS account, Root it, and hack it onto the ACS Network?

It has been done with Sprints EVO 4G and an EVO 3D

The only downfall is those neat international phones won't work )= Personally, I LOVE GSM, and it sucks because GCI has the 1900 spectrum, which has great coverage, but, unfortunately doesn't "penetrate" building structures very well, yet AT&T has better indoor coverage, yet I don't like the urban coverage of 850. Plus their data congestion is terrible..

Haha, I enjoy how you use the term "hack it onto". You should only need the MDN and MIN numbers from the provider to key into the handset. No hacking needed lol...

I love android just for that reason alone. I'm learning more about AOSP and ROM development. I kind of already bricked a dummy phone I was experimenting on. )= I haven't worked too much on CDMA just because GSM is little more "forgiving"...

Meh I've been with ATT for years..and Verizon finally coming to AK won't make a big difference to me.

They give me 15% off my monthly bill and have given me $400-$500 of credits over the past four years due to various reasons.

Their business customer care is awesome.

They've been good to me.. and as long as they continue to be a good carrier I have no reason to switch.

I've had a far better experience with them than I did with GCI..

I will never hold a wireless account with them again.

Per some very high level telco execs who talked to me about this last year...This is a move to drop share prices for a buy out. Nothing more than scare tactics. Building out another plant or infrastructure makes no sense in an already saturated market here. They may have plans to buy out and expand as well.

Regardless of what they actually do it will be years before you see actual products IMO.
