i think even christian horner can be quoted as saying he's the best #2 on the grid and they have no intentions of getting rid of him.

Mclaren has had a ton of good results as well, but rarely did both Mclarens excel on the same race day. If Hamilton put it on the front row Button got his ass kicked in quali, or Button did great in the race and Hamilton broke down/crashed out.
agreeeeeeeed. inconsistency was their downfall this year.

Side note: recently Webber's stated he's not a #2 driver ("I won't move over for anybody"), but I'll always remember his win in 2010 at Silverstone after he had to give up his development front wing to Vettel (after Vettel's failed in practice). "Not bad for a number two driver. Cheers!"
i believe this was a dig at the team considering him a #2 or 2nd class driver due to them giving all the brand new shiny prototype/free blowjob/whatever else versions of stuff to vettel and not him. bit like barrichello was when he was with schumacher at ferrari. i believe he can even be quoted as saying he reckoned he could beat schumacher if they'd just give him his car.

Just b/c Rubens said it, doesn't mean it's true though. He didn't fair any better at Honda or Brawn against Button, of course he probably thought the team was trying to sabotage him as well.

true. but there's plenty of other factors in play.

considering that webber has managed to beat vettel even without his better car i think the theory holds plenty of merit and goes some way as to explaining why webber gave them the verbal finger when he did it.

Slight change in topic, does the FIA need to bring in a faster safety car? He's going flat out, but it seems to be far too slow considering the characteristics of the Pirelli tires. Maybe Ferrari should step up.

No surprise here: HRT is out.

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/104673

Quote:
The HRT Formula 1 team looks set to officially close down after failing to find a buyer before the FIA's payment deadline for 2013 entries on Friday.

The squad was absent from the 22-car entry list published by the governing body on Saturday.

HRT had been put up for sale by owner Thesan Capital just before the United States Grand Prix.

Attempts were made to find a buyer before the entry deadline. AUTOSPORT understands that Chinese company Chery Automobile among those involved in talks to save HRT.

Sources indicate that the team is now working to pay its creditors and that the plan is for the team to shut down without unpaid debts.

Team representatives declined to comment on the current situation.

HRT was originally launched as Campos Meta by former F1 driver Adrian Campos when the FIA invited new entries for the 2010 season.

But its first reconstitution happened before it even made the grid, as former Jordan/Midland boss Colin Kolles was parachuted in to lead a last-minute rescue when the project hit funding problems.

Kolles saw the renamed Hispania team through to the middle of the 2011 season, when it was bought by Thesan.

It was relocated to a Madrid base in an attempt to revive the Spanish team image that Campos had originally planned, with Luis Perez-Sala installed as team boss.

Designing its own car for the first time after adapting a Dallara-produced chassis in its early years, HRT hinted at progress in 2012 as it briefly closed on Marussia.

But it drifted away at the tail of the field by the end of the year, with its funding problems clearly apparent as tales of parts shortages dominated what turned out to be its final races.

HRT had beaten Marussia to 11th spot in the constructors' championship in its first two years, before falling to last in 2012.

It is the first F1 team to close down since Super Aguri's mid-2008 exit.

I think so...the car is fast in a straight line, and that Maylander dude is quick, but most of us have seen Top Gear, and that car can't tolerate any throttle while turning. I think the medical car could be quicker.

I'm a little surprised they use a C63 instead of maybe an E65 for the medical car. Maybe the E-class wouldn't fit through some places.

Seriously Ferrari, get a light bar on top of an F12 and show Mercedes what a real FR car can do.

I'd love to see a McLaren MP4-12C pace car for a year.

Reminds me of a European Lemans series race I saw where it started raining heavily quite a few years back. The safety car (an '00 Subaru Impreza STI) was pulling away from the field because the water on track was so deep.

All he's done is straight line testing (last I checked) for FIF1. I don't see that happening. Alex Rossi has a better shot in a slower teams, Caterham.

That's all I've seen as well. I'm going out on a limb here with something oddball ahppening mid season to put him in the seat in a temporary substitute role.

You do have to admit though, that it would take something pretty extraordinary to be a bigger surprise if that happened.

Only reason Conor Daly has a better chance in getting into F1 then Rossi i would say is because conor's dad raced F1 back in the day and also, Conor has been killing it in gp3! First race in indy light, won the race. His speed and success is very very well for an American. Yes, Rossi is much closer and has already had a FP1 practice... but daly has been catching up faster and faster!

I'm actually with artkevin on this one, where I think Rossi has a better chance landing a more permanent seat in F1 with one of the lesser teams than Daly does right now. I just think that Daly has a better shot in a temporary role with a better team.

It's not out of the question that for the first time since the 1983 South African Grand Prix, there could be two American F1 drivers on the grid in the next couple of years.

but picking someone who you already know will do well, wouldn't be a "Surprise" of 2013... i picked perez - either to do well or poorly would be a surprise to me. i expect him to be a 6-9th place guy in the mclaren.

on the subject of mercedes, don't they usually start their seasons strong, and then fade? citing budget reasons for the lack of mid-season development? *IF* that's true, i don't know what hamilton would do to to help.

Hard to tell with Merc really. There was that whole BS mid-season where they were threatening to pull out, but in the end they cream-pied and snagged Lewis for the next few seasons. If Ross is up to his old tricks, he stopped developing the car once he knew the season was lost and starting working on the 2013 car.

that's what he said in 2010, 2011, and 2012. i srsly hope hamaton brings more sponsorship dollerz to the team so they can develop a car over a full season instead of just the preseason and first 6 races like they have done the last 3 years.

Has anyone ever read any articles about what it takes to gain personal sponsors in motor racing? I don't mean racers who own their own cars, either. I'm talking guys who go up through the open wheel ranks from karting and make it all the way to F1. Where do they get such huge sums of cash for wearing practically nothing on their helmets and overalls?

Whatever the answer, I've got to think Americans are at a disadvantage, especially when you look at how much billboard space there is to offer in NASCAR. Those guys look like they got sprayed with liquefied commercials.

Unfortunately, I think they offered Hamilton so much money, they'll actually be spending more than they did with Schumacher. Hamilton will supposedly have more personal sponsorship freedom, though, so he can really rake in the dough.

I think perez will have good speed but will need to adjust to the car. Mclarens car i'm sure handles and feels much different then Suaber's car. It might be tuffer on tires but much quicker. Two smooth driver's in Mclaren is probably gonna be key to minimize pit stops. I def. want to see how Hamilton will compare to Nico Rosberg as we dont really know how good rosberg is! This will be a good test!

tbh i think perez is the next hamilton. as young as he is, with the team he's with, getting the results he does...

he's a little green/jittery at times but that's just a symptom of inexperience IMO. give it 24 months and i see him/vettel at each others throats (so to speak) assuming adrian newey doesn't design a 10x better car than mclaren in the new format.

Yes!!! YES!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!! (With other updates)

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/104737

Quote:
The 2013 German Grand Prix has been moved forward one week to accommodate another European race, the FIA World Motor Sport Council confirmed today.

With a three-week gap resulting from the date change, the 21st July has now been reserved for a European-based event. The German event will now run on 7th July.

F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone said on Tuesday that he was working on plans to resurrect the Turkish Grand Prix.

The calendar was left with 19 races after it was announced the planned New Jersey Grand Prix would be postponed until 2014.

Alongside the calendar changes, the FIA announced a number of rule tweaks including the abolition of the qualifying 'force majeure' rule, as predicted by AUTOSPORT last month.

As revealed by AUTOSPORT, the F1 Technical Working Group also agreed to postpone to 2017 the requirement for all cars to be driven exclusively under electric power in the pitlane.

For next year, DRS use during practice will be permitted only in the race-specified zones, while the team personnel curfew will be extended from six to eight hours on Thursday night.

Only two exceptions - rather than the previous four - will be permitted across the season.

The FIA also confirmed a small increase in minimum weight to compensate for an increase in tyre weight, and the introduction of more stringent front wing deflection tests.

also.. aero reg changes for 2014 dropped.

http://en.espnf1.com/fia/motorsport/story/97027.html

Quote:
The FIA has agreed to drop planned changes to bodywork in 2014 that was aimed at reducing downforce.

With the new engine regulations taking effect, the bodywork changes were designed to increase the efficiency of the 2014 cars. However, following a meeting of the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) in Istanbul, the FIA has announced that the current regulations will remain stable.

"Changes made to bodywork design, originally aimed at reducing downforce and drag for increased efficiency, have reverted to 2012 specification," read a statement on the FIA website.

Those changes are also allied to amendments to the 2014 engine regulations, as "a number of changes have been made to the power unit regulations with the aim of limiting technology in some areas in order to reduce development costs."

Finally, the FIA confirmed it has postponed the introduction of cars running exclusively under electric power in the pit lane until 2017.
