Default Mach V Springs

UPDATE- READ LASTEST POST! Mach V Springs installed, and still rubbing.

I have a 02 WRX with 4 year old Swift Springs and brand new OEM WRX shocks. I also have EVERY single bushing made for the car + Swaybars.

I have 245/17/40 and I get a tiny bit of rubbing when cornering, especially when people are in the car!

Not to mention, I feel as if I could get a little more confortable ride.

I have done tons of research, and it seems that the only springs that will be a good fit for me (unless I get custom coilovers from TIC) are:
1. Epic Engineering
2. Mach V

Can anyone comment, chime in, or recommend me any suggestions on springs or about the two I have researched?

While they don't publish their spring rates (which I generally dislike) the Epic Engineering springs are assumed to be a stiffer spring rate than the Mach V springs. But the Epic springs, like the Swift springs, are progressive. I think the Mach V springs are linear, but you may want to confirm this with them directly.

In the end it's is going to be a tough call on which will give you the look you want and still provide ample stiffness to reduce or prevent rubbing.

What are your alignment specs? Perhaps some adjustments can be made there to give you a little more clearance.

I'm not here to start an E-Battle, but I thought the swifts are all linear also.

Our springs rates:
Front -- 175 lb/in linear
Rear -- 116-156 lb/in progressive

We have pictures on our website if you want to see the drop. Let me know if you have any questions.

weren't both of these springs designed after the prodrive springs?

Ours were. The Prodrive springs were discontinued so we decided to fill that void and make our own.

I wonder if anyone has gone to Swift to Mach v or visa versa.

I wonder how the drop compares.

Mach V seems to be a little softer....

I just installed the epic springs on my stock struts that have 143k on them and they ride fine, they are pretty stiff so when hitting large bumps in the road you definitely feel it but nothing unbearable. Oh and they handle like a dream

hmm,

so it appears the Swift springs actually have softer rates than the Mach in the back, but apparently the Swift lowers the car more, making it not as confortable.

I will be purchasing any day and compare the difference. Just don't know which to get, EPIC or Mach V...

If you are getting rubbing while cornering the Mach V might be better just due to the lower drop.

What he is refering to, is the "saggy butt" of having the rear end lower then the fronts. It happens with some lowering/sport springs.

so certain springs do this? They should not allowed to be sold if this is a problem. I doubt Swift does this, but I cannot confirm.

It's not that the spring changes over time. Some cars are heavier in the back (wagons, cars with big sub boxes). Some people just prefer a rake, with the back higher than the front. Some springs make the car level, but the front LOOKS higher, because the front wheel cutout is bigger. The saggy butt spacers are for people who want to raise the back of the car up a little bit, either for cosmetics or for function.

I had BC BR Coilovers previously. Too aggressive for me. For my uses i don't plan on going back to coilovers. New struts maybe, but that's it.

got it, thanks! I should not need it, although I do have a 30 pound sub in the back.

What I did notice the other week on my Swift Springs is that when I put two people in the back, it really rubs, and when I go over big bumps with people in the back, it sounds awful.

The only other solution if the Mach Springs don't fix my issues are to "pull the fenders" which does not seem like an ideal solution. I hate how our cars are designed. BMW's got it right. A stock suspension 3 series looks pretty low, yet has no issues.

Both the WRX and STi spec of the Swift Sport springs are progressive. I've installed both on friends' cars. You may be right about the r-spec or spec-r (whichever it is). As they are much stiffer and geared toward high performance handling they may be linear. The Sport springs are geared more toward DD and appearance.
