Default What Solo 2 Class is the fastest....excluding the MOD classes

trying to do some analysis...EXCLUDING THE MOD classes..AM, BM,...etc..
SM is acceptable...so which is it...trying to determine the fastest class...looks notoriusly like SS is the fastest....some courses it's ESP, others could be BSP or even ASP...I know alot depends on Driver..thats a given...
It looks very cousre dependant..certain classes like certian style courses as others like other style courses...PAX is no help...because it you go by that...then SM or SS has the worst pax...ie: fastest class...

opinions????

I would think everywhere would be different dependent on preparation level of local cars....ie...if there's a local guy that is a good driver in a 98% prepped car I would look to that class. I would guess SM if you made me pick a non MOD class. It "should" be slightly faster than the SP classes. Typically the SP classes win because they are better prepared for IMHO. Most people in SM are in the class for silly reasons. Like they wanted to twin-charge their car, or they have a BOV, or some other illegal bling. That's my 0.02.

SM2 should be fastest. Whether it is faster than ASP yet or not, I don't know. But it should be faster than anything other than some of the prepared classes, full modified classes, and the various formula classes.

'05 Tours:

El Paso - SS - Eric Strelnieks 04 Z06
Atlanta - SM - Marc Osgood 05 STi
Atwater - CP - Mike Molleker 95 Mustang
Devens - SM - Mark Daddio 05 EVO
Denver - EP - Christopher Dorsey 85 CRX
Houston - SS - Eric Strelnieks 04 Z06
Packwood - BSP - Duke Langley 90 Vette
Peru - CP - Kurt Janish 95 Pontiac TA
San Diego - SM2 - Andrew McKee 93 RX7
Toledo - SM - Marc Daddio 05 EVO
Walnut Ridge - SS - Eric Strelnieks 04 Z06

Looking at the classes, you need to then look at the drivers. I see a repeating pattern there... Daddio and Strelnieks. 2 people taking almost 1/2 of the tours as fastest. Are the classes fast or are the drivers? They have a good combination of driver/car and picked what suits them best.

So looing at the above data, I say Strelnieks is a fast driver, not that the class is fast. He makes it look that the class is fast. But other classes, like ASP should be faster, given top talent in the class.

You need to look at who's driving to find out if it's a fast class, or just fast drivers.

FWIW, that was Joel's STi. Joel/Karen/whoever. Were any SP-illegal parts swapped into the car prior to Marc and Karen's runs, or was it a fully ESP legal car during Marc's FTD runs?

AFAIK...it was strickly ESP legal...just that it ran in 2 different classes...

I did the same thing in Kiko's ESP car at a Event...and ran SM with it..

^^^^ totally agree with you...my last post was for you ..but fliz got in there before i could hit reply......

PAX.
SS 0.840
SM2 0.854
BSP 0.843
SM 0.845

Prepared class have the worse pax...but are no wheres near the front of the pack when it comes to events...

BP 0.862
DP 0.853

AP is the Worst...
..Again..these guys are no where near the front of the pack when it comes to FTD...
....

My point to all this...is how screwed up Classing is with SCCA...that I REALLY think they need a total REVAMP...

The Fastest Class should have the worst PAX....see my thinking here...

Their rules are contradictory to winning pax. Then again, look at the Atwater tour.... CP. Pax is just theoretical.

Also keep in mind that some of those venues had weather related issues, and on top of that, differing surfaces.

It's hard to just look at results and say 'X' was a fast class.

I understand exactly what you are saying....this is my bitch....So EVERYONE that runs in one of those classes have to LIVE with a Result that affects all that are in that class....

so just because a FAST DRIVER is in a DECENT car.....and its not class dependant...the SCCA classes cars dependant on these Results...correct...

Politics Sux for this...

That is correct. Fastest Driver in the class in a fully prepped car for that class.

Take a look at Marc Daddio for a sec. Multitime national champ in different kinds of cars. He knows how to drive. Won CM in '04 in a car he only drove a few times that year locally and a tour or two.

He can drive. Put him in a car prepped to the hilt, and he'll be one of the fastest drivers out there for that class.

It's not about politics. That's the way it is anywhere. Someone wins, the benchmark gets set higher for the next year.

I really think this is the key for PAX.

There are some classes that only have one or two cars that are "as fast as possible". And the chances of that car being driven by a great driver aren't that good.

SM is a great example. There are tons of WRX's in SM, but they are not even close to being "fully prepared".

How many cars run the largest engine allowed and are close to the minimum weight? When was the last time you saw a 3.0T, AWD, 2600 lb SM car?

You forgot: Andy McKee / SM2

I own Andy's old S2000... one one particular day, we both drove the car. He beat me by a full second. He's that fast.
