Fantasy Football Discussion
Yes another Official thread, deal with it.
There are multiple Fantasy Football leagues in OT and members that are on teams elsewhere, this thread is open to anyone that needs Fantasy Football help/advice. This thread is for discussions regarding trades, free agent pick ups, strategies, your team roster and etc. Basically this is to help get advice and tips outside of your league, since that might not be the most effective method. Thought it would be best to keep this discussion out of the NFL thread and the separate League threads; which are used to get players for the league and trash talking not advice. This will be the thread used for every NFL season until it gets too crowded. The first question of the season for me is, would this be a fair trade? I offer DeSean Jackson and Brandon Jacobs or Reggie Bush for Vincent Jackson.

I joined a league this year, and once again probably have no buisness doing so. (see: gambling problem) The draft is this week and I'm not sure who I should be gunning for. Whats the best resource for a decent general ranking of perceived fantasy value? NFL.com? Or is there something better. Thanks!

I wouldn't touch Reggie Bush with a ten foot pole. He can't stay healthy, and he can't run between the tackles. If you have him, trade him or dump him. You're also offering WAY too much for Jackson, especially if it's non-PPR. SD receiving/TE core is deep and he doesn't see the end-zone enough. Be content with DJax because you should know what you have. Be verry happy with Jacobs; he should have a great year, especially in the red zone.
I'll post my OT league lineup for week one. Drafting last explains the roster: I have too much depth at the WR slot, mostly as a result of drafting 12th. I'm in 4 money leagues this year, and I promised myself I wouldn't put myself in this type of predicament. Oh well... My week 1 issue is Julio Jones @ Chicago or Ochocinco @ MIA. I'm torn on who to roll with here. I don't like any WR up against MIA's secondary even with Brady throwing. I'm leaning towards Jones. Ryan passed 42 times last game and has made it quite public that he loves targeting Jones, and pre-season reflects that. Chicago doesn't scare me this year and I have a feeling Mike Mularkey will have Ryan prove Jones' worthiness come regular season kickoff. What do you guys think? 2nd. I don't want Dwayne Bowe. I can't foresee him repeating last years performance, especially given KC acquisitions in the WR slot. I took him solely for trade value. Given week 1 hasn't even began, no one in the league seems interested in trading anyone. |

Someone offered me Steve Smith (CAR) for Brandon Marshall. What say ye OT? I'm a bit meh on both of them. Smith gets injured just about every year. Marshall has a ton of talent when he's not going psycho and when he has a QB.

I'd expect to see comparable performances from each, so don't stress it too much. The only difference is the upside to Smith wanting to play with Newton. FWIW: Cam Newton is responsible for Steve Smith staying in Carolina: He straight-up asked him to stay.

My OT FF Team, drafted 11th out of 12. As for your issues. I would start Julio Jones, I actually wanted to draft him as my third receiver, I expect him to have a big season. Think Jones is gonna be a stud as defenses focus on Roddy White. As for Bowe, I dont expect him to repeat last season but I can see him getting 1,000yds 6TD's. Another player I wanted to pick up; as a backup WR. |

I have to wait for an auto draft still:/
I'm starting to see ocho as more of a defensive distraction lately. I was high on him but I just can't see the Pat's coach being that big of a fan of his early on. he's going to have to not screw up to get real attention I think. |

My OT League #1 team... Drafted 12th/12, so also got f'd on the RBs. Somehow, Megatron went 1st overall which is a sin like no other in fantasy football. I was hoping I'd get him at 12 before the draft started . Here's my lineup: Run DMc is never my choice to be my #1 running back, but I do take some solace in the fact that Oakland quietly was the 2nd best rushing team in the NFL last year with DMc only playing 13 games and averaging a sick 5.1 YPC. Still would have liked a lot of RBs before him, but I'm OK with it. I hate drafting at the ends 'cause you can really get caught on the bad side of runs so you end up reaching over and over again. As soon as 1 TE went (Gates, 4-11) I was still 12 picks away and had to grab Clark as the 3rd TE off the board at 5-12. Sure enough, by my next pick 7 more TEs were taken. Also reached on guys like Jahvid Best who's got notorious issues staying healthy, despite it being only his 2nd year in the league. He was always dinged in college too and has been hit this preseason and sat out vs. the Pats this past week. Considering the hype surrounding this kid last year I'm hoping I got a discount on a homerun type gamble. I definitely nested a lot of stock into high powered offenses that target specific players - ATL (Roddy, Julio) and DET (Stafford, Best). Kinda sick to say that when 3 years ago they both were god awful. Parity in the NFL much? I consciously avoided teams that spread it around a lot (NE, NO) except for another high potential return - Mark Ingram. He's already scored 3 or 4 TEs this preseason handling the goal line duties. I've been impressed and expect him to piss off a lot of Pierre Thomas owners. And yes, Indy spreads it around as much as any other elite team, but Wayne will get 80/1000/8. Stafford has been electric this preseason against #1 defenses and Bradford suddenly has a REALLY deep WR core, despite having no "true" #1 WR in my mind. I'm hoping for top 8 QB production from one of them. Edit: and yes, I did draft Julio Jones 6-1 which is a decent stretch, but I wanted him as my #3 WR and there was slim/no chance he'd be back in 24 picks. WRs still on the board were solid, too: Colston, Welker, Harvin, Boldin, Rice, and several others went before I picked again. |

In 3 of the 4 drafts I have already done this year, Aaron Rodger has been the curve-ball and gone prematurely. Megatron is properly placed at no. 12... that's why I took him there, so I can understand your surprise and even frustration.
Jr: Your team doesn't look that bad. My biggest concern is with your bye weeks. You're going to be pretty short-handed when DET and ATL sit. I think your draft strategy was spot on though, despite a few bad choices. You jumped the gun on J. Jones, as did I. I got him in the 7th round @ pick 84. He most likely will go 90ish in most drafts. I'm a gambling man, but still would have taken Welker over him. Best will be good this year as will most of Detroit. Stafford, if he's healthy, will finish top 3 fantasy QBs. If you go off of fantasy stats from the pre-season, he's ahead of everyone. I actually think DET has a more than fair shot at the division. I really do. FWIW, I got him in rd. NINE. Dallas Clark doesn't scare me despite the injury recovery and the uncertainty at QB. Roy Williams is a complete bust and will remain so. I expect him to lose his starting spot to Johnny Knox by week 3. I'm not sold on McFadden either. Total one hit wonder who will be lucky to see 1k yards this season. I also expect a lot out of Bradford, so you potentially put yourself in a bad spot come weekly decision time. |

I'm always up for trading, and Julio is certainly on the block. We seem to feel the same about him (lots of hype, but he's done everything to live up to it and his QB is all about him). I'm expecting him to outperform most expectations just because of the coverage Roddy will be drawing on the other side of the field.
The tough part is that I'm really lacking at RB, but both of your RBs were top 14 picks. Julio isn't involved in that discussion and it's hard to work it in. MJD I don't necessarily like any more than DMc and I chose him over SJax. Both of our teams suffered from the curse of drafting near the end of a snake. Offer something up and I'll look at it, but first glance is that it's going to be tough given our similar builds. Quote:
And remember, you reached for Julio in the region between my 6th and 7th picks (or that might actually be my 7th round pick), so I'm OK with a 1 round gamble. Welker I avoid like the plague in non PPR leagues. He gets so few looks at the goal line just because of the emergence of Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez along with Brady's love of the corner fade jump ball to taller receivers. My 8th round (pick 85) and 9th round (pick 108) selections were Stafford and Bradford, respectively, so I really hope I do have that problem of "which QB do I start this week?" That's a good problem to have so long as they both have solid potential. I'm ready to get this season going! Last edited by jr4284; 08-30-2011 at 10:57 AM. |

Here's my lineup...drafted 9 out of 12. holmes and collie were keepers. non PPR league. Will probably bid on antonio brown and drop sanders. need to cut one receiver/RB as well to pick up a D. I took a ton of **** for drafting flacco ahead of romo and roeth, but I think this is his year.
Mendenhall, Rashard RB PIT Fitzgerald, Larry WR ARI Mathews, Ryan RB SDC Flacco, Joe QB BAL Witten, Jason TE DAL Rice, Sidney WR SEA Holmes, Santonio WR NYJ Freeman, Josh QB TBB Collie, Austin WR IND Tomlinson, LaDainian RB NYJ Hardesty, Montario RB CLE Kaeding, Nate PK SDC Cooley, Chris TE WAS Sanders, Emmanuel WR PIT Tate, Ben RB HOU |

Odd, I picked up Stafford @ 108. I was actually pretty surprised he was still on the board. I'm a firm believer that early round picks shouldn't be QBs, the field is just too deep to jump the gun.

Yeah I agree. I believe your league has flex positions, whereas ours does not. So by the 7th round I had my 3 WR, 3 RB, and TE (all starters + a backup RB) so at that point it was either grab a another backup RB/WR or take my starting QB.

I have a live draft this Saturday. QB, WR WR, RB RB, Flex, TE, K, D/ST. I've been making a ranked spreadsheet for both RB and WR. My TE and QB choices I'm going to play by ear (If I can pick up Vick or Rogers lat first round, I will). D and K, I'll pick up the last two rounds.
Good enough strategy? What do ya'll do to prepare for live drafts? |

Me and the GF have been running two computers to check rankings and any potential injuries for all available players. Yahoo's draft system doesn't show if the player you are looking at has an issue. So if you are not in the know, you might accidentally pic someone with a high rating that has an injury. |

It's the projected point total for QBs using ESPN's projections and their scoring system (yes, rushing stats are included too). Here's the same graph for RBs: In 1 QB leagues it's pretty foolhardy to get a top tier QB as the drop offs in RBs is significant until you get to a tier at the 10-16 level. By the end of the 2nd round, usually 15 RBs have been taken, often more. You always want to be optimizing your points per game potential. If you can wait 8 rounds and sacrifice 3 PPG on your QB (#2 QB 280 points = 17.5 ppg, #10 QB 230 points = 14.5 ppg) or draft a QB early and sacrifice 2 PPG on your RBs for that 1 round, it's a pretty clear choice. Unfortunately the 90 second clock in online drafts is a blessing and a curse. It moves the draft along very quickly, but it KILLS the ability to strategize while tracking everyone else's moves. Quote:

Hell, for my offline auction draft where I"m the commish, I have 1 laptop in dual monitor mode with my screen showing my excel sheet and the second screen hooked up to a projector displaying everyone that's been drafted and for much much $. Then my other laptop is at my side for all the ESPN/League info stuff. I'm waaaaay on the far end of the fantasy nerd spectrum though. For people new to the game, LESS IS MORE. If you saw all my stuff you'd get insanely confused and not know what to do. Having 1 list in front of you and a sharpie is the best idea 98% of the time. |

Matt, I have never seen such a WR lop-sided team ever! You have to make a trade or too for a decent RB and then you will have quite the team. I'm sure with that many good WR's off the board you have some serious trade bait there.
Here are my teams, care to rate them?: EDIT: Sorry for the size and quality of the pics. Nasioc League: Office League: Both 12 team paid leagues. I tried to make a big deal about aquiring RB's in both leagues as every year I fall short, even for my bench. I picked a QB early in my Nasioc league and late in my office league. I was fifth in the Nasioc league and Eighth in the office league. I feel like my office league is stronger but what say you? I actually passed on Chris Johnson who fell to eigth in my office league ... |

Goddamnit!!!
Goddamnit!!! Goddamnit!!! Goddamnit!!! This is the first time i've been in a fantasy football league, and I did something incredibly stupid. I saw that Peyton Manning had neck surgery in the off season, and that he got switched to the active list, but that it might be a while before he plays a game. I intended to Bench him for a while, but instead I ****ING DROPPED HIM!!!! Can I not ****ing read???? FML. When does the waiver period end? I need to try to get him back before someone else does. |
