Default GT3071 .63 a/r Perrin Kit, VP109, 25psi 436whp!

This is one of my first projects that we finally re-visited. This car is now running a short-block with stock heads. We've refined the blow-through MAF setup and the CAI. We also dumped the EWG to atmosphere for a bit more power and a lot more noise .

Mods:

Perrin GT3071 .63 a/r rotated kit
Perrin FMIC
Greddy SP2 Catback
Deatschwerks 850cc injectors
Hallman MBC
EQ Tuning Custom Tune on Cobb AP V2

Tuned on VP 109 at 25psi. This is a track tune so it was left nice and safe.

This car is hitting 25psi by 3400RPM and considering the awesome response, this power is amazing! I honestly thought this turbo would choke out around 400whp, but it didn't take much fuss to make this power. I think with a more agressive tune and some more boost, this thing could make around 460-470whp. As it stands now, it burns through 1st and second and gives a healthy chirp into 3rd

Thanks
-- Ed

Wow. Nice setup. I was thinking about doing a rotated 3071 and a spearco setup.

that crazy number for your software dyno and it has a decent top end for having a .63 A/R. Nice and it spools like a VF39 with a front mount what more could you ask for? thats better than a Twinscroll.

How does it spools so fast? TGV deletes. Do you think it will make more power on E85, god I need a good tranny

It does have TGV deletes but they're not heavily ported. There's really a lot more to be done on this car. VP109 is great gas... especially unleaded. I don't think it would make any additional power on E85 unless we ran more boost.

This one has a 4" inlet but its getting necked down to 3" for the CAI. For a while we were running just a 4" elbow and a K&N (short ram style). The response on this setup was good but we were getting excessive compressor surge. Once we necked down the intake to 3" and extended it into a CAI, things got a lot smoother and most of the surge was gone. I was also surprised to see very little to no loss in response.

VP109 is unleaded but I find it to run better than C10. It also has a high O2 content, so it likes to be run a bit on the rich side. This tune settled in at around 11.3:1 to make for a nice safe, consistent track tune.

Thanks

While I think it could do 400whp on 91 + meth, the tune would have to be on the aggressive side to do so.

Awesome numbers!! The 30R turbos always amaze me! With a good selection of mods and a fantastic tune, these things must move!

Better than a twinscroll what? Twinscroll GT35 maybe but a twinscroll 3071(which I haven't seen) would spool even better.

Wow Ed, terrific for a .63. I would assume on your dyno it would hit right above 400 then taper to 385 ish, but that sucker looks like it wants to keep going!!!

What are you thinking here, 124-126 traps??

Very nice numbers

... and most of the surge was gone.
Ouch! What would it take to eliminate ALL of the surge? Is the surge because the GT3071R .63 comes on too fast down low? Maybe going to a GT3071 .82 or GT3076 .63 would be enough of a step to eliminate surge?

Surge sucks! I like to be able to go WOT at 2500rpm in 5th without having to worry!

Thoughts?

I'm just talking about surge when letting off the throttle. Even with the Tial BOV, we were getting hard surge when letting off from higher boost levels. We played with different springs in the BOV but could not eliminate the problem until we necked down the intake.

Yea that thing keeps pulling... we actually did a few pulls to 7400RPM and it pulls quite well the whole way. If we ran higher peak boost levels, the powerband shape would be more like you describe, peaking earlier and leveling out or dropping off up top.

124-126mph traps sounds about right for this power.
