Default Just Tested! Motion Lab Hi-Flow Crossover Pipe...

What:
Motion Lab (MLT) Hi-flow Manifold Crossover Pipe

Manufacturer:
Motion Lab designed and manufactured in Charlotte, NC.

Why:
After seeing some of the other aftermarket crossover pipes crack at the flex bellow, we felt that there was surely a better design. Our aim was to create a stronger and better flowing pipe.

Test Vehicle:

We utilized a 2008 WRX to show the benefits of the newly designed MLT crossover pipe. This WRX was fitted with a FMIC, HTA68 turbo, MLT (soon to be released) EWG up-pipe with Tial 38mm v-band, MLT 880cc injectors, 3-port BCS, intake, FP upgrade, TB hose upgrade, and 3" cat-less exhaust.

How the test comparison was carried out:

To make this as fair as possible, we first tuned the WRX with all of the above mentioned parts, including the MLT crossover pipe. Once we felt that we had wrung out as much as we were going to get, we shut it down and let it cool off. I then had George remove the MLT crossover pipe so that we could replace it with the factory stock pipe. We felt that this was the best strategy so that both the factory stock pipe vs the MLT hi-flow pipe utilized the "same tune". Otherwise, any further tuning would through off the results.

Conclusion:

The data speaks for itself. What you see is a dramatic improvement in turbo spool up and improved power and torque throughout the entire RPM range! This is a worthwhile mod on any EJ series Subaru motor.

Good Job! How hot was the MLT crossover pipe when George changed it after the tune? Do you think the ceramic makes a big difference?

Default Proud owner for the x-over pipe among other goodies

As the owner of this WRX, I'd like to speak candidly about this part. As mentioned in the write-up, the quality is top notch and fitment great. (It doesn't hurt to look around the engine bay and see more shiny parts either.)

As far as performance, the shift into the lower portion of the power band by about 500rpm makes for a tangible feel when cruising along and needing boost. Since this is my daily driver, I often find myself cruising around 2500 - 3000 rpm and having the ability to step on the gas and achieve peak boost sooner makes for more enjoyment. (Then I just let the HTA68 do the rest.)

Bottom Line in my case: good fit, good quality, +10hp, +25ft/lb, -500rpm to peak boost for under $200 bucks installed makes for a no-brainer.

Anyone want my stock part???

Yeah, George said it cooled down faster than the stock crossover pipe during changing the pipes. Obviously it holds the heat in during operation quite well with the coating The ceramic coating is a "most do" on these. Otherwise there would be a loss of heat which you don't want.

good price for coating included.

what about coming out with an 06-07 crosspipe?

will be looking forward to the reviews on this, as I will be shopping for a crosspipe for my spring upgrades. also concerned with the possibility of the ticking noise under load, as heard from other crosspipes.

The cross pipes work on all 2002-2011 WRX/STi/Legacy GT (Except 06-07 WRX), Stay posted for a 06-07 cross pipe.

Our MLT cross pipe has no sound difference over the stock cross pipe.

No hating here whatsoever, but gimme a break.

I wanted to go this route because I don't have faith in a lot aftermarket headers. I want to port n polish my headers and I am considering this crosspipe. are these able to withstand the coating process that swaintech does? I have my mind made up that they will coat my entire exhaust with their white coating since I believe they are the best in the game with coatings..

I think the gains might have a lot to do with other complimentary mods as well. In regards to Grimmspeed's crosspipe, yeah I definitely don't find much gain at all from other people who have used it and even according to their website, it's a much smaller gain and the dyno graphs definitely don't look this good.
