EJ20 vs EJ25
EJ20 or EJ25 on a 01 RS?
I've been reading on turboing the RS. A lot of people say, just do a engine swap because for one, its a lot safer, and two, its way cheaper. Ya I agree with those two things. But I rather stick with my EJ25 and turbo it. The FAT and AVO kits say 4-6 psi is safe for the motor, as long as you don't go any higher than that. What kind of internal modifications do I need to make it safe to run higher boost? Cobb has a shortblock but they want almost $6,000.00 for it. I am just trying to make a list on what is needed to be boost safe. I just plan to use my car as a everyday driving car. Maybe once every two months I will run it at the tracks. My goal is to get at least 285bhp. |

ud need new internals pistons rods id do new valve springs
but u gotta remember for the small amount of torque ur gonna keep and the money ur gonna spend, u can get a wrx engine and get parts for it, run higher boost, and spend less i chose an ej257 for those reasons holds boost better and is still a half liter bigger than a wrx engine work being done myself w/ new springs was around 2gs but i got 350 for the shortblock so i was happy |

Ok, for those who are running high boost with their stock ej25 engines, what mods did you do to keep your engine from going to engine heaven?

Engine managment is most important.
I've been running 12psi for ~3 years now, stock motor, daily driven. My engine is still running, but the tranny is another story. I'm on #4 now after breaking my KAAZ full dog box 2 weeks ago . Being safe and saving your motor is all about good tuning. |

Stop being stubborn and do a wrx swap. Then from there 285whp is easy. 285bhp is not even worth mentioning.

I'm sure lots of red line clutch-less power shifting did not help.
The truth is the tranny should have been able to take that kind of abuse. It was designed to be used in off road racing, and to get slammed from one gear to the next. The parts are on their way back to Japan now, and there is a very good chance that they are going to warrantee the replacement of the parts. So at least it's not a total loss, just a pain in the butt. |

for me i went with EJ25 with
close dect with Cast Iron Liners, 8.5:1 piston, crank, rod, camshaft, valves, spring, and stage 3 bb turbo but you might need $16-18k for this set up |

listen to these guys, don't try to half ass this, that's how things break, do a full swap you'll make 285 WHP and with the right turob you won't even realize that you have any kind of missing low end torque |

yeah, I'm running a Link +.
I'll be switching back to my stock ECU just a soon as I can find the map sensor limiter in the ECU program. Then we'll all have a great management solution, ECU reflashing I've already reflashed it for fuel and timing, just can't find that damn MAP sensor limiter. |
