No offense but how in the world do you think added power can't cause this? The engine makes more power, causing extra stress on the entire car. I am sure adding more power could cause the welds to fail. And certainly SOA should not need to cover this repair. I hope you successfully fix your car, and I hope I never have to deal with that issue. However you can't honestly expect Subaru to fix the car once it's been modified do you?

that doesn't have anything to do with the clutch engagement or its mounting.

OP - glad everything got sorted out.

I had a similar squeaking noise in the clutch peddle when i bought it... everyone said it was probably just because it was new, and grease needed to flow. Now, at 10,000 my clutch rattles on deceleration, or while coasting in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gear. And i think the stop where the clutch engages, is now higher. I will be curious to follow your posts, and see what your outcome is.

How did you get past the original warranty denial and flagging? You are stage 2, right?

Dealer inspected the firewall for integrity of spot welds and all were of sufficient quality to both my satisfaction and the dealer's satisfaction.

So they finally replaced under warranty a portion of the pedal assembly and the clutch master cylinder and it fixed the noise. At 47k miles now and the noise has not come back.

By the way, the clutch itself felt fine when the noise was happening, and I noticed no ill effects other than an assault on my eardrums.

FYI - I had a creaking noise from my clutch shortly after I got the car. The dealer replaced the master cylinder and the issue went away. Then 2 years later my clutch linkage broke and the clutch went straight to the floor when I was driving! Here is a thread with more info and photos:

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2451989

I am 99% sure this failure was due to something being improperly assembled when the master cylinder was replaced. If you've had this replaced, I would take 5 minutes and check that everything is together properly (should look like the first photo in the thread).

Everyone should make a report to motor vehicle transportation so they force a recall. Fixing my firewall was very costly and its a manufacture defect no matter what subaru says about mods/abuse etc. The firewall is very thin and mad very poorly and they should pay for trying to take shortcuts.

Just got mine fixed after dealing with three dealerships and months of calling up SOA. Also have exhaust, downpipe, up/pipe, headers, intercooler, sway bars....

Obviously wasnt stock but no one could say anything when I knew it was firewall welds and a manufactures defect.

My clutch at the 55k mi was so heavy and engagement point was so high dealerships were saying gotta be aftermarket clutch. SOA said we gotta make sure clutch is stock so I bought new clutch and when had car apart they saw the broken welds and fixed under warranty of course.

Clutch is buttery how smooth and effortless to push in and engagement point is way lower. My question is was the bad clutch or broken welds causing clutch to feel heavy with high engagement?

Did they replace anything else besides the clutch? It could have been the master clutch cylinder or something else they swapped out when they replaced your clutch. It could have also been the actual spring on your clutch.

Thanks it was exciting to finally see this problem resolved.
Believe they didnt touch master cylinder just new clutch kit and flywheel. It could have been the clutch debris they said piled up on my TOB (think they said TOB) that was causing the stiff pedal and high engagement.
The engagement point is so different felt like I was learning to drive another car last couple days

Spray white lithium grease into clutch master cylinder from underneath dash right where the clutch pedal is. This should solve it. Be a little generous.

Well I have the same issue described here, I already have a new ACT clutch assembly with virtually small number of miles. Went to my Suby dealer to check what can be done since my warranty ran out and powertrain does not cover this.
They say it could be the bearing OR the spot welds on the dash thus having to take apart the WHOLE dash and stealing $480 from me.

Thankfully, I have just found this post and am going to try it out.

Clutch squeak fix without taking the whole dash apart (nut/bolt style)

Total: .80 cents and some elbow grease

2009 WRX with the ACT clutch as well and mine just started doing this within the last 24-48 hours. I took a video of it while someone was pushing the clutch in and you could see the Clutch master cylinder moving about an half-an-inch to an inch back and forth. Definitely broken welds and I know that SOA won't warrantee it. I understand the pay to play but shouldn't the parts on the firewall be solid?

Welds were definitely the issue. Cracked completely from the firewall shelf and had to be rewelded. The dash was "fun" but I got everything fixed and it only cost me $40 for the welders time. Not too bad doing it and no more clutch squeak. Here's a video we made....

Mine is squeaking to but it doesn't do it until the car has warmed up. When I first start it up in the morning it's fine but after driving a few miles it starts to do it. Anybody else experience it this way? I also have a kartboy engine pitch stop mount, however, I did notice it before I put the after market mount. I'm going to take my car in in a few days to have the dealership look at it but I was wondering for some input?

It squeaks near the bottom. Although mine doesn't squeak (like I said earlier) until after the car has been driven a bit. I'll definitely ask my dealership about that though, thanks!

In case anyone is curious about my case - dealership confirmed the noise and have to pull the trans to take a look. Unfortunately I have to reschedule that so going to shoot for next Tuesday. They told me I should be covered so keeping my fingers crossed.

Hi Guys! I own a 2009 WRX and I've experienced this very same issue. Currently, we are proceeding forward with a Class Action suit against Subaru for the faulty firewall issues with the hope of forcing a recall on all of the 08+ affected. If you have 10 minutes to help out or become part of this, please call Greg Coleman Law at 1-800-HURT-NOW or at 865-247-0080. Again, this will only take 10 minutes of time. Thank you again and hopefully, we can get this fixed for everyone regardless of mileage or mods!
