02 WRX springs on a 99 Legacy????
I want to stiffin the ride on my 99 legacy and would like a little drop. I'm not ready to hack a half inch out of the stock ones yet.
I have stock Springs (and struts) from a 02WRX. I measured the springs and everything seams the same except the diamerter of steel wire used, WRX fronts are .030 larger than the stock front legacy . Stiffer right??? Does anyone know if they will swap over?? any one know about the rears? the dont look exactly the same. This is my street car/(when not in the shop) my daily driver. I really want to get the body roll out. COMPLETELY! Sway bars are in the mail.

Yes, getting high quality anti-sway bars and end-links is a good step.
If you arent especially concerned about ride quality you might be better off with a cheap set of H&R springs from the tyre rack, however since the number of aftermarket suspension options for the second generation BD Legacys appears to be dropping, the concept of swapping with the WRX is a good one. Read about it HERE. |

Whiteline is pretty much the ultimate source for suspension pieces. I don't think Anti-Sway Bars will have any negative affects on ride quality, however.
Firmer springs will impact ride quality, and there is a definite trade-off. The firmer the springs the better handling (on smooth surface roads), but many people have a distinct preference for a softer more compliant, and "comfortable" suspension springs. |

The WRX springs are set for a more performance ride and a 3100pound car. Brighton is 2900pounds and the springs are for comfort. So swap the springs and get the stiff bars. I hit up cayon roads that are tight and bumpy i want spring that will keep the tires on the ground and i need to get the body roll out of this big wagon.

Ok i went and swapped rear 02WRX sedan spring/struts/t-hats onto the rear of my 99 legacy Brighton wagon. the results were a .25 inch drop and a softer rear end... I had a little bit more rear end sway and squat BUT the i cant get the rear end to break loose in turns! In hard turns under hard throtle the inner front wheel gets loose a lot more than normal.
I took pictures of the springs/struts/t-hats that i will post later. But as i can see it the differences are as such -the wrx strut is .25 in shorter -the wrx strut has half a coil less of spring but the coil wire is .030thousands thicker -the wrx coil space is shorter im going to take the struts back off and put the legacy springs on them -larger spring with more coils in a smaller space. lets see what happens. the problem im have is that the wagon is already as low as it should go stock so the wrx set just made it a little to soft for the ride hieght. on i go trying not to spend money on springs... |

i think that maybe if you had used WRX wagon springs instead, you might have gotten a better result with the ride height.
my 95 L wagon has 04 STi struts and 97 Outback front and rear sways (20mm and 18mm, vs. 19mm and 14mm stock), and it handles pretty good. the front likes to slip around and give me massive understeer at the limits, but i think that might also be due largely to my tires and the fact that the front sway is still bigger than the rear. ride is very stiff too, my girlfriend hates how my car rides but she puts up with it. there is almost no body roll with this set up though, it corners nice and flat. i actually considered trying out a WRX set just to see what the difference is, but haven't had the time. |

right now im using parts i have laying around while i wait for my sway bars, so there is no loss. If i can make a better than stock ride then great. If not who cares ill just go get sti rate springs for the wagon.
