Default Still Misfiring on all cylinders?!

Posted a little while ago because I had just had my CELs read and they showed I was misfiring on all cylinders.

I went with the general consensus of NASIOC and I pulled all the plugs and replaced them. (They did look a bit fouled but not horrible) and went ahead and cleaned my MAF sensor.

The CEL did not immediately reappear as I had to pull the battery to get to the last spark plug. So on my way to to Autozone the CEL came back on. I had the guy there read it and it was the same code. Misfires on all cylinders.

However, as I go to leave my car dies. Turns out my battery is dead as well . The guy at autozone mentions that the dying battery may also be a cause of my misfires, or possibly my starter since I already changed out all the plugs and cleaned the MAF.

Any truth behind any of this? Or should I start looking towards the timing belt?

Thanks in advance for helping a guy out.

A dead battery may mean your alternator was not charging it properly. You'll need to get both tested. I have heard of bad alternators causing misfires, but it seems rare.

What are the mods on the car? Lightened flywheel? Anything like that?

Well, i think the battery was about due. I believe it was the original battery.

I forgot to include mods, they were in my original post.

spark plug wires are the first thing to try, then look to the engine grounding.

Really? Show me spark plug wires on the coil-on-plug ignition system in the WRX.

OP- http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...43&postcount=7

And low voltage can cause missfire problems.

depending on your miles, you might want to change your fuel filter too

So should I have the starter looked at? This may be a stupid question but is the fuel filter the bag looking thing that is attached to the fuel pump?

I agree with dumdum, get your alternator checked out. Low voltage can definately cause misfires.

its the black cylinder at the top right corner of your engine bay with your fuel lines going to it. you can get them at auto zone or advanced for 20 bucks or so. (fuel lines---fuel filter---fuel rails) you will see it.

did the mis fires just start all of a sudden or over time? look into your injectors...it would be very rare for all 4 spark plugs to foul at the same time and cause the misses. it has to be something that would affect all cylinders if it just started all of a sudden. like what everyone has been saying (starter, alternator, etc) it could be electrical. could be your fuel pump. fuel filter. fuel rails. injectors. haha even bad gas. people are having a lot of problems like this and the best thing you can do is check each one at a time. mine was missing on all 4.. turns out the 565cc injectors were not working correctly with the tune. when you rule out he little stuff then i would get the timing checked. goooood luck

well the most you could do would be send them to a shop to get them tested or you could take a chance and take them off give them a good cleaning and just check them out and stick them back on and see if there is a bit of a difference. i'm just not aware of any way to check them at home...

I'd check your valve clearance on all cylinders. With that list of mods I bet they're pretty tight by now.

Took the alternator to autozone and they said that thing was completely done for. Not looking to spend 205 for the OEM part, any recommendation on which way I should sway when purchasing a new one?

Hopefully this is the cause of my misfires? When I check the fuel filter, what am I looking for?

Pick up a good used one in the Forums For Sale section. I think I picked up one for around $60 at one point.
