performance clutch for 86 subaru gl?
I got my mud bog wagon running badly. And still with the 33 inch tires and more power. I fryed my brand new clutch in about 50 miles. Anyone say I told you so. I had some people tell me to upgrade my clutch when I did my engine swap and I ignored them. I am a douche. I was told to use a pressure plate for a xt6. Do you use the clutch disc from the xt6 too. Or do I need to order another GL one. I need the best combo I can find. This car when I get it to run good will be extremely hard on the clutch. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

You can use the whole assembly from a XT6. The flywheel, clutch/PP.
That might help you some. But its going to be hard to find a performance clutch for it, aftermarket stuff is almost non-existent for 80's Subaru's. |

get in touh with brake and clutch of ashville, in ashville Nc. they made me a stage 2 clutch for my rx and once it broke in, it never slipped once. i even had all four wheels spinning and it just gripped like i was rolling away from a stop sign.
on a side note, i wouldnt reccomend spinning all 4 on pavement, i thought the engine was toasted, so i revved the piss out of it and dropped the clutch. i figured that if the engine was gone, might as well try to make sure it wasnt coming back, lol. needless to say, it was fun, but im sure the drive train didnt like it. |

what engine are you running?
yes, you can just get an OEM xt6 pressure plate. the disc and stuff is the same as the 4-cyl Ea82 kit, but the pressure plate is stronger (I just order a full kit for an XT6, but either way works fine.) |

It has a 97 EJ20R twinturbo from a jdm legacy. This is my thread on it.

ive installed two of these kits into rx's, mine and my friend's. his had upgraded cams, fmic, exhaust, boost controller, and nissan injectors. the stage 2 kit held extremely well and still does to day, if the car ran, lol. last i heard, the clutch put in my rx is still holding strong. but i havent had my rx in my posession in over a year. needless to say, the kit from brake and clutch of ashville has really won me over, it holds better than any stock clutch, feels like stock, and is less $$ than stock. ill get their info when i get home tonight since i dont have it on my comp here at work. i guess just send me a pm for the info. |
