Default performance clutch for 86 subaru gl?

I got my mud bog wagon running badly. And still with the 33 inch tires and more power. I fryed my brand new clutch in about 50 miles. Anyone say I told you so. I had some people tell me to upgrade my clutch when I did my engine swap and I ignored them. I am a douche. I was told to use a pressure plate for a xt6. Do you use the clutch disc from the xt6 too. Or do I need to order another GL one. I need the best combo I can find. This car when I get it to run good will be extremely hard on the clutch. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

You can use the whole assembly from a XT6. The flywheel, clutch/PP.
That might help you some. But its going to be hard to find a performance clutch for it, aftermarket stuff is almost non-existent for 80's Subaru's.

get in touh with brake and clutch of ashville, in ashville Nc. they made me a stage 2 clutch for my rx and once it broke in, it never slipped once. i even had all four wheels spinning and it just gripped like i was rolling away from a stop sign.

on a side note, i wouldnt reccomend spinning all 4 on pavement, i thought the engine was toasted, so i revved the piss out of it and dropped the clutch. i figured that if the engine was gone, might as well try to make sure it wasnt coming back, lol. needless to say, it was fun, but im sure the drive train didnt like it.

what engine are you running?

yes, you can just get an OEM xt6 pressure plate. the disc and stuff is the same as the 4-cyl Ea82 kit, but the pressure plate is stronger (I just order a full kit for an XT6, but either way works fine.)

Thanks for the info that is what I needed to know. I will get the stock stuff from a xt6. Then try that out. I will probably order a performance kit later when I can afford it. I may also put smaller tires on for now. There is places that sell performance clutches for 80s subarus. I have found a few they seem to be around 500.00 for a stage three kit. But I have not actually tried to order one yet. They could be discontinued or on back order or something. They usually dont tell you that until you pay. Like 2 months later on you wonder wtf where the f is my f'n parts. "O, well this is on order you should recieve it shortly" my a** you lying sack of s***.

Thanks for everyones input it is appreciated very much.

i want to say that the clutch kit i bought was $190. that included the stage 2 clutch disk that was a kevlar composite (i think) disk, the pressure plate that was upgraded for more clamping force, the pilot bearing, and the release bearing. only thing that was hard to get ahold of was the flywheel, which i got from a local parts store that mainly caters towards shops. that was about $50-$75 if i remember correctly, but i honestly dont remember the exact cost of the flywheel.

ive installed two of these kits into rx's, mine and my friend's. his had upgraded cams, fmic, exhaust, boost controller, and nissan injectors. the stage 2 kit held extremely well and still does to day, if the car ran, lol. last i heard, the clutch put in my rx is still holding strong. but i havent had my rx in my posession in over a year.

needless to say, the kit from brake and clutch of ashville has really won me over, it holds better than any stock clutch, feels like stock, and is less $$ than stock.

ill get their info when i get home tonight since i dont have it on my comp here at work.
i guess just send me a pm for the info.
